Insecurities In The Gift Of The Magi
Across the world, many people struggle with insecurities, of their money and love, taking over their lives. In the wonderful story “The Gift of the Magi” By O’Henry, Della, the thoughtful main character, is struggling with these same issues, but she then learns that love can be shown in many different ways. She learns this as she is trying to find a gift good enough for her husband, Jim. Throughout the story, Della shows many signs of her insecurities, but in the end she learns that there is no need to be insecure about her life. Also, Della sincerely learns that, “Love can be expressed in many ways, but we just need to have faith,” And although that is a quote that not many of us have heard I believe that it is something that incases what Della acquired. Della learns not to let her insecurities take over her life and that she will always have someone that loves her even in the worst situations. I used to think that “The Gift of the Magi”, was a story about a couple that included an extremely dramatic girl who is insecure about everything, but now I know that it is actually about issues that people face in their everyday lives. Also, that it is about how people can face or solve their issues with the help of people they love. Even though, throughout parts of the story, Della’s life could be an example of the quote, “Sometimes our thoughts are backed up by so much insecurity, that they create the lies we believe,” In the end she truly learns that because of all of her bad experiences she has been through she has been shaped into the person she is today so she doesn't need to be insecure. Lastly, she started to change a little by being comforted and hearing and realizing that
