Inhalation Lab Report
During this experiment, three different volumes were measured in order to give a better understanding of the capability and durability of your respiratory system. In order to determine the results there were two main processes that had to be preformed. These processes include inhalation and exhalation. Inhalation, or inspiration occurs when air is moving into your lungs. The second processes, exhalation, or expiration occurs when air is moving out of your lungs (Gutiereez, 2014). Even though inhalation was not directly measured by any of these three tests, in order to accurately measure the exhalation rate, which was measured in these three tests, you had to inhale before. The results of this experiment were consistent with the predictions. They were consistent because of the increase that was shown each time you completed a new test. The first …show more content…
During this test no extra force was added to your breathing rate. The second test, which was measuring the expiratory volume averages increased by five hundred. This occurred because after you inhaled and exhaled normally, you inhaled as hard as possible. The reason that the average increased is because more force was generated into your breath that was measured. The last test, which involved measures vital capacity, had the highest average of all of the tests. This occurred because you just inhaled and exhaled as hard as possible, which generated more force into your breath. The reason that expiratory volume’s average was not as high as vital capacity is because of the amount of air left in the lungs, which is known as the residual volume, was limited. This is true because after inhaling and exhaling normally and then exhaling as hard as possible your residual volume is lower which means there is limited

    Inspiration/ inhalation is the first half of the respiratory cycle where breath is drawn. Several muscles in the respiratory system contribute to the process of inhalation. However, the diaphragm and the external and internal intercostals are the primary muscles of inhalation.
