Soon after, the election of FDR and his many “alphabet soup” programs in his first 100 days addressed the nation’s call for help. He quickly created many government programs to try to curb the effects of the depression and help the poor and homeless who were affected. Many of the programs that he created are still intact today. One such program is Social Security as shown in Document E. This program is considered one of the greatest achievements of the new deal. It addressed elderly citizens’ lack of care, and provided money for those over 65. He also created many other programs that are still intact today including the TVA, which creates jobs in Tennessee, the SEC, a committee that regulates the stock market, and the FDIC which insures banks.…

Have you ever thought about how difficult it is for a baby to be born without low birth weight, prematurity, or birth defects? After visiting the March of Dimes website I learned that over 460,000 newborns in the United States alone are born prematurely. I am a parent of a premature infant and I know firsthand how hard it is to get find answers and get assistance for a disabled child. I gave birth to my son at only 23 weeks of gestation. He was severely underdeveloped and required many surgeries. With the assistance of supportive organizations and medical research, the lifesaving surgeries were performed immediately. Afterwards I researched to find out just what organizations helped to fund the research needed for the surgery my child had undergone. I found that the March of Dimes, Mother’s March and WalkAmerica were just three of the well-known organizations in the United States, and around the world, that funded such research. Each of these organizations main focus is putting an end to prematurity and each work to make their name known through their individual websites.…

Therefore this movement was focused specifically on improving the healthcare available to infants and improving the knowledge surrounding infant healthcare and welfare. This included improving knowledge around feeding methods and the basic needs of infants to thrive. Truby King made huge efforts during this movement, he undertook vigorous research into the needs of infants and set up organizations such as Plunket in 1907 and the Kraitane Hospital that was open in 1927.…
