Role Models of Today
Being a role model is the most powerful form of education; we, the young developing adults, would be lost without it. A role model is a person that someone looks up to and wants to be like, either in the present or in the future. It can be anyone; a parent, family member, friend, or even someone off of a movie or book. The tremendous role models that I continue to learn from are my amazing mom, enlightened Coach Bird, and brilliant minded Sherlock Holmes. One of many important roles that my mom plays in my life is that of a teacher and counselor. She has taught, and still teaches, about life and anything right and wrong in the world. An example would be that no matter how complicated something can get, never give up and walk away after the first try. Dale Carnegie, a famous writer and lecturer, once said; “Most of the things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.” (Walter 1) Another would be just because you see someone do something that seems bad, but does not get in trouble, do not …show more content…
Coach Bird has taught me that there will be times when, even the person in charge, needs someone to stand up and help keep things under control. Depending on the person, leadership can have different meaning, but to me leadership is when you take control of an issue and make it better. Ronald Reagan once said that, “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.” (Indrapradja 2) With that being said, Coach Bird has also taught me about gaining trust. Without trust from others, how can anybody gain leadership? Trust is a powerful asset of leadership, one does not simply assume they have someone’s trust because of their title, but by gaining it through time and
