QUESTION ONE
Just Holiday (JH) is a holiday lodge in one of the Victoria Falls. It has been existent for 7 years. It caters for low-budget holiday-makers from Zimbabwe as well as those from other countries.
The lodge offers 5 self-catering chalets. Four of these chalets are 2-bedroomed, while the fifth one is 3-and-half-bedroomed family chalet. In the last 2 years, there has been a steady increase in patronage, prompting JH’s management to re-think about the dynamics of decision making in the light of data capture, storage, communication and retrieval of information processes.
JH wants to employ the best information technology to ensure that the organization maintains the best records of all transactions conducted and to enable the organization to remain constantly abreast with new trends that come with the increasing stream of clientele. JH considers information technology as an important strategic aspect of the organization in as much as what is happening in the banking and financial service sector.
REQUIRED a) What application software would you recommend to JH for their customer database? Briefly explain why you would recommend this application software to JH.[10 marks] b) What information related to JH’s clients should be captured in the database and what is its relevance to the management team’s decision making process?
