MIS Course Outline
COURSE SYNOPSIS

The goal of this course is to present a core of IS principles with which every business student should be familiar and to offer a survey of the IS discipline that will enable all business students to understand the relationship of advanced courses to the curriculum as a whole. It will also highlight the use of IT and ICT in managerial decision making.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of the course students will be able to:

1. Describe the different types of information resources that are available to the firm or organization. (C1,P1,A1)
2. Explain the concepts upon which these information systems are based upon. (C2,P2,A3)
3. Compare the different IT/ICT that is used to store, manipulate, retrieve and transmit these information both within the organization and also to its external environment. (C6,P6,A4)
4. To discuss the convergence of technology and decision-making, computing and communication etc. (A2,C6,P3)
5. To recommend necessary managerial input to higher level managers through the effective generation of information so as to enhance organizational competitive advantage. (C6,A2,P7)

Topic 11: Systems development

GRADING AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Overall grading will comprise the following sub-divisions:

Assignments: 50% (30/20)
Mid sem/quiz: 20%
Final Exam: 30% 100%
