INF22O WEEK 3 assignment
Select a business that you believe has a good communication network. Examine its network design and explain why you think the network is effective and efficient. Recommend a better network design which can support the decisions and operations of the business if there is any.
Operating a business comes with many difficulties that require strategic business decisions. One thing that remains consistent in all businesses is the need for a effective communication network. “If you run or work in a business, you cannot do without networks. You need to communicate rapidly with your customers, suppliers, and employees.”( ) In my previous job experience I have dealt with great communication networks and networks that needed a lot of work. In this paper I will describe this network and give examples as to why Baker Hughes network was so successful.
Communication networks have come a long way in the past 20 plus years. “Until about 1990, you would have used the postal system or telephone system with voice or fax for business communication. Today, however, you and your employees use computers and e-mail, the Internet, cell phones, and mobile computers connected to wireless networks for this purpose. Networking and the Internet are now nearly synonymous with doing business.”( ) As far as communication networks go Baker Hughes has top notch technology for their employees and customers. Employees are assigned specific clients and are expected to be able to communicate with them at any time; this means employees are to be accessible to their clients at all times. Employees are issued take home cell phones, and also issued programmed lap tops to make sure any issues that may arise for the clients will be handled and resolved even if the employees are not at work.
The Telecommunication service Baker Hughes contracted was AT&T services. They decided to use
