Independence Day Celebration
Independence Day Celebration
‘I am a patriot, not because I love my country,
But because, my country loves me.’
Modern School was born in the year 1920, in the era when the country was in the midst of its struggle for freedom. During these turbulent times, Modern School established itself as a school deeply rooted in Indian traditions and values. And even today, Modern School celebrates the Independence Day with full gusto because it has the struggle, been a part of it and also basked in the sunshine of victory when India finally became independent on the 15th of August 1947.
This year, the Independence day was celebrated on the 12th of August. The chief guest for the occasion were Mr. Salman Khurshid , Honourable Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Minority Affairs . The Guest of Honour for the occasion was Mrs. D Purandeshwari, Honourable Mininster of State for human resource development.
The celebrations began with the bhajan ‘O Palan Hare’ sung by Shivani Singh of S6A. And a group song ‘Purane Din Purane Pal’ sung by the S7 students of the School Choir.
After this, it was time to officially begin the proceeding for the day. Mr. Salman Khurshid, along with Mrs. D Purandeshwari, Dr. Bimal Jalan and Mr. Ketaki Sood hoisted the National Flag. Immediately after the flag hoisting, the National Anthem was sung by everyone present in the hall. Those 52 seconds were the most powerful 52 seconds of the day. The voices of the students filled with pride, patriotism and nationalism created magic in the atmosphere.
After this, Mrs. Vaidyanathan welcomed our guests with a warm speech and invited Mrs. D Purandeshwari onto the stage to deliver the Independence Day address. Mrs. Purandeshwari spoke mainly about the true meaning of education and what we as students and future citizens can do for the nation if we are educated in the true sense. She said-‘ Education comes from joyful learning. And learning does not come from just textbooks, it is process of growth

Sajjid started the speech in a very interesting way. He used an anecdote to start off the speech; this method was effective because it grasped the attention of the audience. Many of the audience members could relate to Sajjids personal experience which he related at the beginning, he told the story of what it was like for him leaving his family behind in Bombay and venturing into an experience of uncertainty. I think this showed a sense of organization and importance to the issue of why he was there. From the commencement of the speech Sajjid set a personal and comfortable tone. He spoke to the graduates on a level of equality using phrases like “maybe it’s because we know….” and “our experience is no different from…..” This was an effective strategy of grasping the maintaining the audiences’ attention.…

Based on the interview that we have done with two Malaysians, we can summarize that not all Malaysians know the true meaning of independence. Despite me having to interview a younger generation today, I can see that they don’t value the true meaning of independence meaning that they don’t take Independence Day seriously. This might be because they were not there during the time whereby our leaders were actually struggling and fighting for independence for a better and brighter future for our country. This issue should be taken seriously as the future of our country depends on the younger generation today. We should also be aware of all current issues today, so that our…

As we are celebrating the 64th Republic Day of India, we students have some responsibilities to shoulder, and some duties to plunge ourselves. The contribution of students in the struggle for Indian independence and thereafter in the making of modern India can never be negated. From the prehistoric times to the recent years, students in India have played a significant role in shaping the history, culture and demographics of our beloved motherland. Students are not moved by greed, nor touched by the fanaticism and bigotry between brothers and sisters, in religion or otherwise, nor engulfed by the violence that seems to be a standing libel on the world all around. We students are the most pure, the most energetic. And it is the time for us once more to take the oaths and help the nation march forward.…
