I was part of the Future Leaders of York program in 2016. The program is for high school sophomores and juniors from York county. “FLY” taught me how to be a lifelong, responsible, and active leader in my hometown community. The program ran from September to May and included 6 day-long sessions, an opening retreat, and several special interest sessions. Throughout the year, I read from Leading with Character by John Sosik. Sosik explained that their are 6 types of effective leader characteristics: humanity, wisdom, transcendence, temperance, courage, and justice. Each session focused on these aspects of leadership. My experience was incredibly informative as it helped me grow personally and it prepared my for my future endeavors.…

A self-employed business man once said, “The best example of leadership is leading by example” (Jerry McClain). He describes a true leader, a pioneer whose morals and selflessness guide her to guide others. She is an inspiration, and a beacon of hope for all to follow. I share this passion for helping and guiding by example, and as a member of the National Junior Honor Society, I would seek to better the community just as I do every day inside and outside of the classroom.…

There are many reasons why I want to become an Auror leader, my number one reason is because I frankly feel that my experience in Ursa changed me as a person and I want to continue the personal growth that Aurora has started while helping new students experience the same growth that I did. I have always been dedicated to helping those who are younger than myself. In high school I was on the track team and one of my favorite things to do was to mentor the first year athletes. By doing this I would show my younger teammates correct technique, and how to prepare for meets physically as well as mentally. Now that I am in college I love to help kids from my highschool who are interested in Penn State. I show them around campus, and I gave them…

A leader sets an example in rehearsals and performances, and that means to lead by example. During and after school, a leader should be deferential and respectful to their peers. This is especially important off campus, whether with the band or individually, because one is representing Clark Band. A leader should be known as dependable, admirable, honest, responsible, and much more. I understand many people want to contribute this, but I would be a better asset because I have many goals for this year, and a lot of motivating for meeting them.…

Correspondingly, I have learned that maintaining group focus while avoiding dominating every decision is vital to have fruitful administrative endeavors. Being a youth representative for my church and a volunteer coordinator for my school’s chapter of National Honor Society have required efficient uses of my leadership skills. As I continue through life, I hope to foster my leadership abilities and use them to unite people and attain our mission.…

A successful teacher takes the time to understand his/her students and their perspectives. The situations I have handled such as altercations with teammates and miscommunications have helped make me into a stronger leader. Having this advantage of learning and being mature about situations in high school is going to help me in the long run when I have to handle the same things when I get to college. Becoming a leader and role model for this group of girls was a new, interesting experience. Leading a team is what I have aspired to do so I can learn the skills I need in order to be a role model and impact lives in an influential way. Being elected captain my senior year has a special significance and is a great honor. It is recognition of my hard work, competitive spirit, and most importantly acknowledgement by my teammates of their belief in my ability to lead…

But, I’m only going to go into detail on one. I was an emerging leader, and it was a class that you apply to take when you’re going into your sophomore year, and was aimed at bringing together a diverse array of leaders from all types of organizations on campus. The class was directed by my school’s head of the Center for Leadership & Service department and she certainly is great at her job. Every class was different and unique. Some were aimed at a different way to look at the world, those around you, the way others think, the way others are treated in society, and a wide array of popular leadership theories and insights into how to inspire others and yourself. I still remember what my class came up as our definition of what leadership is to us and it still applies to me today. It was, “Leadership is a continuous developmental process towards the growth of oneself and those around them.” I like the idea of trying to have the mentality of always choosing the positive option in life. This, and the other leadership experience’s I have had are some of the few experiences that I have walked away truly feeling like I grew as a person, taking away with me both new knowledge and leadership skills that will dramatically help me handle the daily struggles that the professional world offers. The leadership programs I attended set a catalyst to my interest in people…
