Hydro Electric Power Plant in Tamil Nadu
Amaravathi Dam at Amaravathinagar, 25 km south on SH 17 from Udumalpet, is located in Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary in Coimbatore district,Tamil Nadu, India. The 9.31 km², 33.53 m deep[1] Amaravathi Reservoir was created by this steep dam. It was built primarily for irrigation and flood control and now also has 4 megawatts of electric generating capacity installed. It is notable for the significant population of Mugger Crocodiles living in its reservoir and catchment basin.
The Kateri (Katery) hydro electric power station is located in Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, India. It is a series of dams and a power house with four 125 KW generators and one 500 KW. The site was the first hydro-electric plant in India, and powers the Cordite Factory at Aruvankadu[1] [2] [3]
The Kundah Hydro-electric Power Scheme is located in the Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, India. It is the one of the biggest electricity generating schemes in Tamil Nadu State. The group of peaks Devarbatta, Karaikada, Koulingabetta and Porthimund, all over 2400 Metres ASL (above sea level) drain into two streams, Avalanche and Emerald. Avalanche and Emerald Dams, along with Upper Bhavani, form the major source of water for the Kundah hydro-electric project. The project is a symbol of India-Canada friendship and co-operation.[1][2] The Power houses were commissioned from the year 1960 to 1964.[3]
The Mettur Dam is one of the largest dams in India built in 1934.[1] It was constructed in a gorge, where the Kaveri River enters the plains. The dam is one of the oldest in India[citation needed]. It provides irrigation facilities to parts of Salem, the length of Erode, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchirappali andThanjavur district for 271,000 acres (110,000 ha) of farm land.

    International River Network and Bujagali Dam Project Uganda, a country based in Africa, is one of the poorest countries in the world. Less than 5% of the population of Uganda has access to electricity more because of poverty and low creditability and less because of lack of electricity.AES is considered to be one of the biggest companies in the world and the largest independent power producer is going to construct $530-million dam near Bujagali Falls on the Nile. Though the details of Bujagali Dum project such as the costs, the amount and terms of capacity payment and distribution of risks are kept confidential; economic calculations are not reliable – how do you know this, International River Network (IRN) has lot of concerns about socio-environmental issues (the costs of the project overcome the forecasts by about 300 mln the government of Uganda and the Word Bank still commit the project). In given conditions the project faces several problems including socio-environmental and economic miscalculations and issues regarding corruption which will make it reasonable to stop the project and to ho on with analysis and researches for alternative projects. 1. Bujagali Dam project is good/bad for the Ugandan people. Uganda’s GDP vs. other sub-Saharan countries’ GDP. Advantages: From the economic and social point of view the construction of Dam will increase economical welfare of Ugandan people by providing certain level of employment both during and after the construction.
