Humpty Dumpty Challenge
Introduction:
The purpose of this experiment is to determine the most efficient air bag that will protect Humpty when he is dropped. When talking about the most efficient air bag we are talking about using the least amount of chemicals to make the most carbon dioxide to inflate the bag.
We hypothesized that a small amount of sodium bicarbonate with a small amount of acetic acid will create enough carbon dioxide to inflate the bag so Humpty will have enough cushion to protect him from the fall.
Procedures:
Materials: * Electronic balance * Graduated cylinder * Saftey goggles * One egg (Humpty Dumpty) * Paper lunch bag * 50cm masking tape * 1.775g sodium

Measure out the sodium bicarbonate and acetic acid into two sets of each. (one for each bag) 2. Add the chemicals into the bad (seal bag so the carbon dioxide will not escape) 3. Tape Humpty inbetween the two sealable palsti bags. 4. Put the bags with Humpty inbetween them into the lunch bag 5. Drop Humpty’s vehicle to the ground. (The height will be given to you by your teacher) 6. Observe Humpty to see if he has any cracks in his shell. 7. Record data
Observations:
When doing the experiment we observed that the amount of chemicals used was the right amount to inflate the bags to protect Humpty when he fell to the ground.
Analysis and Conclusion:
This experiment turned out just as I excepted. The amount of chemicals we used inflated the bag enough to protect Humpty but also it wasn’t to full so that we were able to put the bags into the lunch bag without ripping the bag. When Humpty was dropped he did not break. The air bags were a success. The small amount of chemicals used was the right amount to inflate the air bags.
Source of Error:
There was no source of error during this experiment.

The dependent variable is whether the amount of water lost or gained in the gummy bears varies in a linear fashion. The constants are the type of gummy bear used in this experiment, the type of salt, the type of beaker, the type of scale, the cover, amount of water, and the amount of time the gummy bears have. The control is the beaker without the salt in it; Beaker A. Safety procedures include washing your hands before and after the experiment.…

Once the vehicle gets into a crash the air bag pops out. The air bags are filled nitrogen gas. Hazardous sodium metal is also produced with the nitrogen so the potassium nitrate adapts with the sodium to make the hazardous sodium oxide less harmless. The uses of the stoichiometry calculations are to figure out the amount of sodium azide that produces the required nitrogen gas to fill the air bag. If there is too much gas that is produced the air bag may get hard.…

    Egg Drop Project Essay

    • 721 Words

For this project, I made a capsule for an egg that is to be dropped from about twenty feet. This capsule that I made was not what I was thinking at first but when I started to build it, I saw that this capsule would hold better than the one that I was thinking which was a triangular capsule with the egg in the middle but I saw later one that the egg would break if it hit one of the flat sides. The capsule is a cube that is made out of the tongue depressors and I used most of the yarn for the big cage and I used the Elmer’s glue to glue the tongue depressors together. I used pieces of the paper clips to hold the popsicle sticks together with the tongue depressors and some more glue. I then made the center, which was made by two popsicle sticks that I had which formed into a triangle and I made a little railing around it with the paper clips. I then put the cotton puffs inside the triangle that was formed with the two popsicle sticks and it is used to cushion the egg while it’s falling so when it hits the floor, then it wouldn’t receive all the damage if the cage were to break and the small egg holder were to fall out of the capsule or if it were to hit the floor straight. I used the pipe cleaners to hole the egg inside the egg holder so that it doesn’t fall out of it and break. I used some glue to glue the cotton puffs to the railing that was made for the egg holder and to the two popsicle sticks.…

The goal of this lab was to determine the amount of grams of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) required to produce enough CO2 gas to completely fill the lab and also how many Alka-Seltzer tablets that would equate to. This was done by collecting CO2 gas by inverting a buret and submerging it under water in order to calculate the volume of CO2 released from a fragment of Alka-Seltzer tablet. The main component of Alka-Seltzer is sodium bicarbonate, used to neutralize excess stomach acid during illness through the following reaction that generates CO2:…
