Susan B. Antony was born in February 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts. She was raised in a Quaker family who was very strict but was very close to one another. At a very young age, she was very tough and was known to stand up against other children if she felt they were wrong. When she was young, she also knew what she wanted to be when she grows up and that was a teacher. While growing up, Susan could see the differences in the way boys and girls were treated. Even at school, it was the boys who were always chosen by the teachers to learn reading and writing and she did not like that. In 1846, at the age of 26, she took the position of the girls’ department at Canajoharie Academy, her first paid position. She taught at that school for two years, earning $110 a year. Susan spent 15 years being a teacher because she knew that she was able to work and earn money just like men were.…

Henrey treated each and every student like they were special. Mrs. Henrey acted as if all of her students were her children. She called us her daughters and sons on many occasion. She also showed us that we were special by her actions. At the beginning of every class we all got to share a happy moment that happened in the past day. This part of class was always my favorite because it was always so positive and it forced you to look on the brighter side of things. At the end of each semester, Mrs. Henrey gave every student a piece of paper that had her personal email and her phone number on it. Also on the paper was a note explaining that when we went to college, if there ever something that we needed we could email her and ask for her help. She told us that even if we were having a bad day and we wanted so homemade cookies, she would send us some…

I have had multiple influential people in my life, but I'm not going to say my parents or a great teacher, but rather someone closer to my age. Andrew Calton, a good friend and great influence. Andrew helped me “get back on my feet” when I was scared to kayak. I would stay on the lake and not go on rivers because I had no confidence in myself. Late at night he and Jack White, another good friend, came to my cabin at camp and told me there was a spot on a trip and he wanted me to go. I went on the trip and the fact that they wanted me to go boosted my confidence. We went on harder rivers I had never been on and I did not swim, or bail out of by boat once.…
