The symbolism of the journey 2 I have chosen to write about the symbolism between two stories. ( Rhys’s “ I Used to Live Here Once” and Frost’s “The Road Not Taken”). I have chosen to compare these two because they use a lot of symbolism. I am drawn to Frost’s poem and Rhys’s short story. I will write about how both author’ use symbolism in different ways. She still thinks that maybe the children do not hear her. She says “hello once again and also saying I used to live here once” (Rhys, J. 1996, pg 2). She reached out to touch them with longing in her heart. Symbolisms letting the reader know that she is lonely for human contact. The boy turned “his gray eyes looked straight into hers” (Rhys, J. 1996 pg 2). Without seeing her the boys expression does not change he turned to girl and said: hasn’t it gone cold all of the sudden, D’ you notice? Let’s go in” “yes lets” said the girl. (Rhys, J. 1996, pg 2). Her arm feel to her side, as she watched the boy and girl enter the house “that was the first time she knew”. (Rhys, J. 1996. pg 2). The symbolism is when the boy say that it has gotten colder it is because she is a is not of the living world. When the children run in the house she has come to this realization that she is dead.

Frost uses symbolism in showing a choice made in life and the symbolism that he uses shows this. The way that he expresses life as a road is saying that we all have a choice in how we live our lives and what we choose to do with it. There are times that it might seem easier to take the smoother of life’s way that may not be the best way. Frost is saying that life is to live the best we can we need to learn and gain from it which can make it hard at
