I ask you, what is a journey? Is it something we merely physically embark on or somewhat more? Well, those who say a journey is simply physical are too naive to realise the existence of imaginative journeys. An imaginative journey is explored through speculation to come to a deeper understanding. An imaginative journey, may be one you read, see, think or relive and can often result in an individual finding a change, proving that without imagination there can be no change.
This is evident in The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost where a metaphor of a road is used assiduously throughout this poem to establish the way of life the persona has traveled. Colour imagery through “yellow wood” establishes not only a physical change i.e. change in season, but also a change in the realm of the mind. The persona’s justification of choice is evident through the simile “then took the other, as just as fair” This decision is then contemplated, where the imagination explores the consequences of some choices. Have you ever looked back and felt some regret? The line “I shall be telling this with a sigh” depicts this reflection and possible regret by use of emotive language. The value of this reflection process through the imaginative journey is clear in the last line “and this has made all the …show more content…
Change and learning are the keys to this imaginative journey with Alice experiencing juxtaposition between childhood and adolescence. Alice’s imaginative journey is seen where she repetitively grows and shrinks in size, metaphorically depicting her change and confusion. Her confusion is furthered through paradox’s such as “I see what I eat is the same as I eat what I see!” Wouldn’t you be confused by that too? The journey imaginatively parallels a dog eat dog world which is the harsh reality Alice must face. By learning this, Alice undergoes change, which is the point of the imaginative

    Robert Frost’s poem, ‘The Road Not Taken’ can describe anyone’s life at any point in time because everyone needs to make decisions everyday, no matter how big or small. The feeling throughout the first three stanzas, to me, was a slight nervousness. The author has two choices to make and he is contemplating each one.     The poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost describes the dilemma in decision making, generally in life each individual has countless decisions to make and those decisions lead to new challenges, dilemmas and opportunities.     Robert Frost and his poetry were adored by the American public, as both were often thought to embody deeply cherished American values such as freedom, independence, nobility and rising to the occasion.
