How To Read Spanish
As a child, I did not experienced any difficulty in learning to read and write in Spanish. Spanish is written the way it sounds with clear meanings. Learning to read and write Spanish was music to my ears. You just need to sound out the syllables and it is easily written. This may sound mostly like an opinion but I believe that everyone may think the same way about their home language.
Even though I did not grow up with many amenities I did had a loving mother who would read books to me before bedtime. Nights which my mom was not around me was spent with my grandmother. I can still remember my grandmother reading the Bible at the side of my bed. While she was reading to me she would spent time braiding her long grey hair. My grandmother was

When I would read my imagination would fly away. I can still remember the spot I spent most of time reading witch was the roof of my house. I would climbed every afternoon to spend time reading and imagining the amazing bible stories I read. One of the things I quite do not remember much is writing. I only remember having our teacher dictate words and phrases to us. In High School, we would read novels as The Odyssey and The Iliada by Homer. The teacher would put us in groups and each group was required to present our summaries in front of the class and most of the time write essays to support our reading projects
Today I am an adult and God gave me the opportunity to come to the United States to one of the greatest nation that bring us a lot of opportunities. Now my story is different and I am in the process in learning to write and read in English. I have not yet read an entire novel in English like I have done in Spanish but I do enjoy reading articles. I am still learning to fully understand what I read even though I am required to read it twice to comprehend. I might not have enough experience but I feel proud of myself to be in my second semester of school and developing my writing and reading

Because when I came to the United States at a young age I faced a lot challenges and hardships but I decided to keep going and stay resilient. One of the challenges I faced was learning the English language. At the beginning when I arrived the U.S I did know any single word in English and that was upsetting and sad to me because everybody in my school knew how to speak it. English language has always been a difficult language to learn for me. But, I try to not give up and I am improving in it through my diligence. Nevertheless, I was dedicated to develop my English skills through learning and studying new vocabulary words and tried to use them in my daily life dialogues. My growth mindset was pushing me every single day to learn and face my obstacles. I also liked to read a lot of books which improved my reading skills and correspondingly gave me new words and notions. Despite, sometimes I do not understand the senses of the words while reading it I used a dictionary. I listened to music and read the lyrics of the songs because I have told that this is one of the effective methods to learn a language. On the other hand, I have taken plenty of workshops, programs on how to progress in pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. I know learning a language is hard but what it is harder is to not give up and stay focused on my own work. I have failed a lot of times in the past but once I fail I…

When reading the title "Se Habla Espanol" I expected the author Tanya Barrientos to have a language barrier with non spanish speaking Americans. It was an eye opener to hear her perspective. Reading about her barrier with her parents and feeling disconnected with her heritage after she matured. First she had to get passed her embaresment of beign hispanic and once she accepted herself for being different I could feel her regret for not learning to speak spanish and not embracing her heritage.…

Any student can tell you that the further you get into high school the harder the reading is, there’s no denying it. Going from reading from Dr. Suess’s Green Eggs and Ham to analyzing Homer’s Odyssey can be stressful if you aren’t prepared for the harder vocabulary, complex wording, and deeply-and I mean deeply- hidden meanings.…

Some of the earliest reading memories I have come from reading flashcards with basic words on them, reading closed captions on cartoons (something I still utilize to this day,) and being read to by my mother and preschool teachers. A memory I remember in vivid detail (which is one of my earliest memories) is sitting in the lap of one of the preschool assistants (Jan) as she was reading to me. I do not remember what book it was, however, I do remember I was wearing a sweatshirt and my pink snowboots. I have a picture of this in a preschool scrapbook. Another one of my early reading memories is watching Timon and Pumbaa and singing along to the theme song as I read the closed captions. My mother came in when she heard me singing the word “philosophy” and I gave her a look that said “What is that face for?”…

I was pretty lonely growing up, being an only child and all. I grew up in a somewhat small house in Plano, Texas where I would spend all of my life even until today. Being born and raised in a suburb like Plano I did not learn a lot of skills that my mother had learned while she grew up. My mother grew up in a small town north of Plano called Whitewright, Texas. She was raised riding horses with her friends, exploring the vast amount of land, and spending time with everyone that she knew. My mother and I were raised completely differently and I was always curious about her childhood.…

I learned how to read at a very early age of five. Not only did I know how to read in English but I also learned how to read in Spanish. For kindergarten I went to an imersion program which taught me both English and Spanis. My parents were very suprised I was able to read in both languages since I wasnt fluent at the time. I had no idea it was such ancawesome accomplishment until later on. I am really thankful for the teacher I had Señora Carmona. She was the one who really developed my reading skills and I am very thankful for tha. At five years old you dont know how smart you are until you look back amd you're like Wowwww! I was able to do that. For some people it is still hard to read in their first language let alone in another. One day Señora Carmona called my parents in for a parent teacher conference. At the time my parents were a little worried that I had gotten in trouble. When my parents went into class my Dad and Señora Carmona realized they went to high school together so it broke the ice a little. They spent a little time catching up and then she began to talk about me.she told them how amazed she was on how I was doing compared to the rest of the kids in the class. My parents were so proud of me. They couldnt believe I was reading better than both the American kids in English and the hispanic kids in Spanish. As parents they felt a sense of accomplishment. I look back and I really appreciate what I had learned back then because it has helped me out in so many ways. I will never forget Señora Carmona and if I saw her today I would thank her for all she had taught me.…

It is amazing to me to see how much I have accomplished since second grade. I feel as if the little girl who walked throughout the halls of Spanish Immersion, the girl who had little faith in herself to succeed, had changed into a mature, hard working young lady. In second grade I was partly depressed. I had felt as if life had no meaning. I struggled in school, and did not appreciate what was being taught. My mom suggested that I may have had dyslexia, but we were not certain that was the reason. It turns out, she was correct.…

Finally the day came and it was time for me to go to school. I was scared; I did not know where I was, and I did not know a single word in English. There was no way my mom would stick me in an English classroom. They moved me to a Spanish one; there I had a more clear idea of what I was learning. The teacher was a sweet, calm lady; she had patience with my wiggly and off place writing, to this day I have not figured out whether she understood it or not. Once I learned my ABC’s here came the small words of animals and things like for example “oso” which means bear in Spanish. Learning to read and write seamed so boring. I had to sit down and do homework which required my attention, but I preferred to draw and play. Learning was torture; I would read very slowly, even when I tried to read those small picture books for small kids, I was useless by that time.…

Growing up, for my mother, was not exactly a fairy tale. Just like me, my mother grew up with a young mom as well. However, my grandmother was only sixteen when she gave birth for the first time. Unfortunately, at these times teen pregnancy was not as common as it is now, and my grandmother was constantly looked down upon for that. Because of this my grandmother was never very affectionate with my mother, and tended to put on the responsibility of raising and taking care of my mom on my great grandmother.…
