How to Build a Computer
How to Build a Custom Desktop Computer Most people believe that building a desktop computer is difficult or complicated, even though that is not really the case. It takes a basic understanding of how to use a screw driver, read manuals, and know a little about basic hardware and software. Building your own computer has its ups and downs. Building a computer one’s self can save money, because then you do not have to pay someone else to do it. Also, when building the computer, you need one hundred percent control over what is inside the computer hardware and software-wise. While building a Personal Computer (PC) is somewhat easy, building a MAC is not because Apple usually controls parts and software too much. First, it is important to get the right parts together; you cannot simply put random parts together and expect them to work. Building a computer requires some research into the types of hardware and software that are needed. Selecting the right configuration, whether your computer will be a gaming machine, internet surfer, work computer or used for graphics design, you should design your computer to fit your needs. Gaming machines and graphics design computers tend to need more hardware than internet and work computers because they run programs that use a lot of the hardware. Next, think about processor type. Intel’s processors are usually the better built processors, but cost more; whereas AMD’s cost less, but are considered the “Fords” of PCs because of the fact that most PC experts believe AMD processors to be weak compared to Intel Processors. Now, think about what type of graphics you desire, onboard or a graphics card. Onboard graphics have less capacity than graphics cards do, but are cheaper because it is a part of the motherboard. This brings you to motherboards; determine if you need performance or not. Motherboard prices range from $70.00 to $400.00. Power supplies can be the easiest component. Most new systems need 450 watts or more, while

I realized my once top of the line components were outdated but, being poor I had to make due with my salvaged parts. The list of components needed was concise, but rather expensive. I needed a new motherboard, central processing unit, processor cooler, and a new desktop computer tower case. I had to wait and save another paycheck to buy all the necessary components.…

First and foremost before you begin, you must purchase all the parts or hardware that you intend on putting in your computer. There are "computer shows" listed in every Sunday paper, this is by far your best chance of gaining cheap effective computer parts, not to mention the added bonus of being able to ask questions about your purchase to real individuals selling the hardware. Not to mention, if you need to ask a question about compatibility because it's not written on the box, anyone selling merchandise will be able to answer any question you throw at them. They live for computers and are the most knowledgeable around. There is usually a cover charge to enter the show but not more then a couple of dollars.…

    Overclocking a Processor

Overclocking a processor What is overclocking? It is a procedure of increasing your PCs performance by increasing your CPUs/RAMs/Southbridge’s/Northbridge’s/GPUs clock and multiplier (only CPU and RAM) and voltage. In this text I am gonna explain you how can you overclock your CPU and RAM. About others I will maybe explain you some other time. Why would anyone want to overclock (OC) a processor? Because it increases computers performance. But it also increases CPU-s temperature, so it needs a better cooler. Not every motherboard is enabled for OC. So you need a motherboard that is enabled for OC. Heat also needs to get out of a computer, so you need at least 2 extra ventilator for case, and a case should be clean, and it should have a lot of extra room so the hot air could go out of the case. If you decide to OC you will also need more power because higher clocks of your processor take more power. So, you need also a better power supply. All this should be telling you that OC is an expensive, but not really. If you have an old PC just buy a new one. If u can’t afford yourself to buy components that are more expensive than ones that u would buy if you weren't planning to OC, don't even OC. What should you know before you start OC or buying components? 1. If you are not careful, your CPU could start burning, and then it will be no good any more. You will also loose your warranty. 2. Your PC will be hot from inside, and when its summer or a hot day your PC might be overheated, so you will need to lower your CPU-s clock 3. There are differences between OC-ing an Intel and AMD processor, so check which companies product you have, and go to the correct paragraph 4. There is a cooler which you get with processor in its box. It’s not for OC. You will have to buy a better one. I recommend you Scythe Mugen 2, or Thermaltake 120 Extreme Black Edition, but for the second one I recommend you to buy at least 1 ventilator and install it onto the cooler INTEL I am assuming you…

Assembling and modding go hand in hand, if one can assemble a PC one could probably mod it with little or no trouble. Since the late eighties it was possible to go to a shop and buy hardware to build your own computer and since the first PC came out people were modifying them to their own specifications. Although building a computer from scratch is practical it may not be the best decision for most people, instead they can go to a shop and have a system custom built for them from parts they select. However, these kinds of services are not offered for modding, and they should not be because a mod should be done by the owner of the computer, not someone who has no idea about the tastes of the customer.…

One of the most important things this computer must have is the best security program out there. In college I will be doing projects and other types of work on this computer and if this information is taken it can be very bad for myself. Eventually I can see myself as an accountant which means dealing with people’s money. If a person’s financial statements are on the memory of this computer, there needs to be a security system that blocks hackers from stealing these statements and committing identity theft against some of my clients. Another very important software that needs to be on this pc is disaster recovery software. If something were to go wrong on this computer, both a large project that I am working on at the University of Delaware or a client’s finances/taxes, could be lost and then this could get them or myself in trouble with the government. Getting into the specifics of my major, the majority of classes that I will need to graduate will be math or business related. There are really no other subjects that I will be required to take in which I will need specific software for on this…

    My Ideal Computer

This paper will explain why and what the computer will be used for. The computer will be used for business as I’m the manager of a call center, and it would also be used for videos and for me to be able to get internet as well. I would go with a MacBook Pro (Apple 2010), but I would want the screen to be an 18” but keeping the same half an inch slim design, and yes MacBook doesn’t have an 18” but since this is my ideal computer 18” is perfect. I would like this computer to be as thin as MacBook Air which is the world’s thinnest computer. Battery life is very important so having good computer life is essential. I would want it to have the battery life of the 13” Macbook Pro which lasted up to 10 hours at a time unlike the 17” Mac which only gets 8-9 hours of time. Speed is very important as well It must have the new Intel Core i5 and i7 processors which the fastest dual-core processors around for the Mac notebooks. I5 and i7 processor even has a feature where you can Turbo Boost which increases the speed from a 2.66GHz to a 3.33GHz. Since I will be using this computer for my pictures as well as videos I would want the new NVIDIA GeForce GT 33M which is a graphics processor and it’s the fastest on the market for Mac, which I used all the time it has 48 processing cores and can go up to 512MB of video memory alone, the great thing about this it doesn’t even slow down the computer at all, NVIDIA GeForce 320M (Apple,2010) is very energy- efficient as well which will help with much needed battery life. Making sure there is a large hard drive will be helpful for saving files, my personal MacBook will have 500GB of storage. The main software I will need on the computer is first iPhoto (Apple,2010) which is one of my favorite software to use hands down it runs with Mac OS X operating system and if you ask me the best operating system…
