How Macbeth Changes

At the beginning of the play, it is easily known about Macbeth how he is a loving subject to the king but later becomes a ruler. The story starts off with a prophecy being told to Macbeth from the three witches saying that one day Macbeth will become king. All Macbeth could think is that Duncan was king at the moment, but has a feeling inside him that wants to kill Duncan so his prophecy could become true and become the new Thane of Cawdor. Over the course of the play, power causes Macbeth to change from a loyal and loving subject of the king to a now wicked ruler who takes out anyone who stands in his way simply because the pursuing of power got the best of him which eventually leads to his downfall. Macbeth becomes fearless by the end of the play because the witches had basically told him that he was invincible saying how no man born from a woman could hurt Macbeth. Furthermore it is supported in the story when he says “Don’t bring me any more reports. I don’t care if all the thanes desert me. Until Birnam Wood gets up and moves to Dunsinane, I won’t be affected by fear.” (V.III). After hearing this Macbeth believes he cannot be killed since everyone was a woman born so when Macduff’s army was heading his way he was extremely cocky and arrogant and this is supported in the essay when he says “Hang out our banners on the outward walls. The cry is still "They come!" Our castle's strength Will laugh a siege to scorn. Here let them lie Till famine and the ague eat them up. Were they not forced with those that should be ours, We might have met them dareful, beard to beard, And beat them backward home.” (V.V). This shows that even though Macduff and his large army is heading to Macbeth’s castle to put an end to him, Macbeth could care less. Macbeth started off the story as a respectable person, but now he is just a power hungry ruler. Ever since he was told the prophecy he made sure that it came true for him since it would benefit him and he really wanted to be king. As the story progresses it shows how Macbeth is full of regret and guilt for what he did and becomes paranoid. As the story ends, it ends with Macbeth surrendering and Macduff had ended Macbeth’s reign of terror, purifying the land of what Macbeth had done. The story shows how even the nicest person could become the most evil when given too much
