How Does Livonia Affect My Life
My whole life I have lived in Livonia, NY, a small town consisting of close to 8,000 people. A brick building with a mural of a cow painted on it reads, “Livonia...a breath of fresh air”. I have lived here for almost eighteen years now and I am ready for a new experience. I have worked hard academically, trying to maintain a ninety or above average as best as I can. Now that college is close, I work even harder wanting to get out of the small town atmosphere. I am driven to continue my education so I can succeed farther and make my dreams reality. Some students in my graduating class say they don't want to go to college, or they want to go for the wrong reasons. That is not me; I wish to get the most out of a college experience, being a student first and receiving an education to build my future. Secondly, I wish to be exposed to thousands of new people and opportunities I couldn't fathom before I left little Livonia. …show more content…
Growing up, I would see what they did to get them in trouble or rewarded. Today, I base a lot of my decisions off of consequences from their life or from the advice they give from their experiences. My siblings are all between ten and eighteen years older than me, which caused me to want to mature quicker. I wanted to spend time with them without being annoying and I wanted to be just like them. Because of maturing somewhat earlier than the rest of the students in my grade, I have made an impact helping others with their personal problems, and being a leader on my volleyball team as a captain. The advice or influence I had on my peers are due to my siblings influence on me. Because they are all so much older than me, I tend to base my viewpoints or outlooks on what they have to say. By going to a University I hope to become more of an individual, making my own mark and finding out what I think about the current world

Today, many students like myself all over the America have walked down the hectic aisles of high school and have sat in some of the largest lecture halls in college. As kids, we were somewhat taught that going to school and getting an education would be the key to our success and thought that if we didn’t fulfill these expectations, we would end up homeless and live a terrible life. For so many years during my educational career this was the mentality that I believed in. Although this may be over exaggerated, I believe that this may hold some truth to the many college students all over the world. It is almost like we volunteer to go into debt and deal with all the stress that a college education brings us because we feel like it will get us…

In Pharinet’s “Is College for Everyone?” she discusses that while many benefit from college, others may not belong there. “It is estimated that in the U.S., 50% of students who begin college never graduate” because they are not ready for the academic and financial challenges of college or do not have the desire to learn (635). Between the cost for tuition, books, school supplies, housing expenses, meals, and gasoline, many students are caught in really difficult financial situations. Pharinet also points out that some students are just not ready for the academic responsibilities or do not have the desire to learn. There are other options outside of college. A student could attend trade school or take a year or two off from school to discover who they are and what they want to do with their life.…

There comes a time in a person’s life when they need to start thinking about their future. Of course, kids tend to think about their futures from an early age. We’ve all wanted to be princesses and ninjas, pirates and fairies, superheroes and singers. But there’s a time to start thinking about your future reality-wise. In the modern era, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to obtain a job without an education past that at the high school level. While college is set up as a luxury, it’s evolving into a necessity. College is something I definitely see for myself in the future although not for the same reason. Personally, I would like to be able to learn about what I want to do and learn how to do it to the best of my ability. Going to college…

This is also where you’re supposed to meet all sorts of new people, entirely different from those you’ve seen in Gratiot County. Where you live in a little bit bigger of a city. Where you network. Where you figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life. Actually going to college, is very important. A fact that in many cases, like my own, is overlooked because of the money. Why pay so much more to go to a college when community colleges are so much cheaper? Is it really worth the tens of thousands of dollars worth of debt? For me, it really truly is. But I’m not going to just leave it at that; I am going to work as hard as I possibly can to make that debt as minimal as possible. That where scholarships like these come into play. I am not getting any financial aid from the government: it is expected that my parents give a third of their pre-tax income directly to my education, a lofty goal that unfortunately we cannot make work. The money that I have personally been saving since I was ten years old is helpful, but not enough to cover it…

When I was six years old, my youngest brother went to college. I was born 13 years after him, 15 years after my older brother, and 16 years after my sister. As a kid, I idolized my siblings. They were all amazing at music, got into amazing schools, on top of an amazing list of accolades. Being the children of working class immigrants, they really embodied the American Dream. Growing up with my role models around me, I felt it was extremely important to be like them, to be the best in every endeavor. This attitude instilled a sort of immature and arrogant pride in me when I was young. Competitiveness flowed through my veins from day one.…

Deciding to go continue my education and further learning after high school was one of the best decisions I’ve made only because it’s what will benefit my future living, financially and mentally as well. Attending school has taught me useful tips I’ll use for the rest of my life, whether its time management, not procrastinating with anything and pushing myself to the highest possible limit. At the end of the day college is not for everyone to attend, it isn’t something to not take seriously; it requires dedication, patience, social skills, etc. Although college is a privilege but I see it more as a necessity in life in order to expand your horizons and life’s possibilities.…

Recently I completed a college inventory report (CSI), something many college students fill out each year. Out of all the topics of my college inventory report I can say that I agree with results of my low sociability and my desire to finish college. I am a shy person and have tendency to hide away from crowds. After being around people for what I consider a long period of time I get uncomfortable. I feel like the odd one so I just hope to be unnoticed by being quiet. My desire to finish college is just something I had since being a young child. Not just finishing college but to receive a greater education in general is my push to finish college. I am firm believer that once you you have your education nothing can stop you. You may have some blockades, but no one can take what you already know.…

After this year, I am ready to transfer to East Carolina University but it took a long thought process to get me to this point. I knew I was not ready to live on my own and would get caught up in the cliché college life and not work to my full potential so I decided community college was the best choice for me. On the other hand, there are students who do not go through this thought process.…
