How Did The Light Bulb Affect Society
On October 22, 1879, the lives of everyone around the world would be forever changed. Before the invention of the light bulb, people everywhere would have to resort to using candles or lanterns. Thomas Edison was not the first to invent the electric lightbulb but was, in fact, the first person to invent the first practical incandescent light. Several other people before Edison attempted a shot at making this invention but shortly after failed. Such other inventions had faults such as (extremely) short life, high expense, and high electric current drawn. Many people attempted but none like Edison, he attempted making the light bulb a whopping 1000 times! Crazy, right? He tried several different methods and several different ways of how to get …show more content…
The light bulb is only one of his many inventions, Edison alone held a great amount of US patents, 1,093, to be exact. The invention of the light bulb has evolved into much greater things and has helped us in several different ways. Take a look at flashlights, they may seem insignificant, but they have such a huge impact, without them, there would be an increase in the amounts of deaths in the tragic 9/11 event, without flashlights, we would not have been able to get under the loads of debris to find trapped victims and first responders. Also, look at headlight in our cars, without them, we would not be capable of driving at night, or at least it would not be safe. Even houses! I think that is one of the main reasons Edison invented the lightbulb was so people would not have to depend a very minimal amount of light to guide them through their house at night. Such a small thing has given us so much and we take it for granted. It is very little known that after Edison's invention, people still used gas lights or candles to light up their homes for about another 50 years afterward. By 1925, only half of America used electric light! It blows my mind how something that we use practically every day, was not necessary to have even almost 50 years after the invention. Thomas Edison and whomever the other scientists and inventors are that came up with this invention had a real winner. There are rumors said that Edison did not create the invention and that he hired Nikola Tesla. The reasoning of why this is found hard to believe is because it states that Edison hired Tesla to redesign his electrical generators. After Tesla did so, he charged Edison 50,000 dollars in which Edison told him he must not understand American humor and paid Tesla in middle fingers. If you put your mind to something, even if it is a confused,

The Revolutionary Lightbulb Imagine the world without the lightbulb. The rays of energy produced by this bulb of wires and glass are necessities and have become staples in many people's lives. The lightbulb caused a rebellion against the habits of old and swept in an era of radiant beams. This small illuminating glass sphere is often forgotten because it can be easily accessed by a flick of a switch, but the lightbulb is an invention that has changed society into a world of magnificent rays.…

Many inventors such as Humphrey Davy and Warren de la Rue worked towards bettering the light bulb and made significant advances which allowed Thomas Edison to create his bulb. In fact, many lightbulbs were created before Edison, even though he is often credited with the invention. The problem that all of the previous inventors was the amount of time that the light bulb burned. The early versions had extremely short life spans and were much too expensive to produce. Edison's bulb changed that, he developed a bulb that used a bamboo filament, thus increasing the lifespan from 14.5 hours to 1,200 hours.…

Thomas Edison was an inventor that provided the basic foundation for technology that we still use today and improved on. Thomas Edison created the light bulb, phonograph, the movie camera and much more. These technologies like the light bulb are taken for granted because most of the world uses light from the basic light bulb, led, and flashlights. After numerous failures, Edison finally found the perfect material for the filament, thus replacing the lamps that used kerosene and oil . An additional source from http://www.livescience.com/43424-who-invented-the-light-bulb.html challenges who really created the light bulb stating that Edison is credited with inventing the light bulb, but the article states long before Edison created commercially light…

In fact, In 1831, a scientist named Micheal Faraday discovered a way to conduct an electrical current through a wire. This discovery was called the basic principles of electrical generation. Thomas Edison also did several experiments that later led to the invention of the Light Bulb in 1879. He made it possible for people to use the artificial light by 1880. His invention made Micheal Faraday's discovery of conducting electrical currents through a wire into an electrical force inside a pear-shaped glass bulb.…

The invention of the lightbulb was arguably one of the most important in recent human history. It also was however, perhaps one of the most detrimental things to modern society. As we all depend on light to function now at all hours of the day. For all of the problems that the lightbulb solved, it gave rise to just as many. Although some may argue that humanity is better off with this invention, there are a select few who refute this claim and stick to saying that humanity’s invention of the lightbulb was only the beginning of a long line of environmentally foolish mistakes that we are still making today.…

Electricity was one of the greatest inventions to benefit American society. It started in 1876 when Thomas Edison created the light bulb. The light bulb helped create central power plants which lit homes, factories, streets, and even large cities. It extended the number of hours in the day when Americans can work and play. Electricity also led to several new inventions. Samuel Morse invented the telegraph in 1896 that sent messages over wire. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1876.…

While America’s infrastructure was building quickly, it required a need to ease the process of producing goods. This lead to the power-generation era. During the 1870’s inventors were hard at work designing and implementing ways to produce power. With the invention of Generators, it motivated others to expand upon power. In 1867, Thomas Edison played a vital role in working with power. “Edison’s laboratory invented so many things that Edison received more than 1,000 U.S. patents, more than any other individual inventor” (schoolworld.com, 2017). Among these many inventions, he created the first safe and fully functioning light bulb. This lead to a system that allowed buildings to have functioning power, which assisted in better workflow. Additionally, his inventions accelerated the path for other vital…
