How Did The Civil War Cause Tensions In The United States
During the fight against Mexico the United States was unified on bringing they land apart of the United States, as a result of winning The new territory it also created a lot of tension among the United States congress. The main reason was over slavery, if it would be allowed over the territory that was just won by the United States which began the compromise of 1850. Both sides were against one another, several congressmen saw this as a opportunity the south to increase farmland and for slavery and the northern congressmen saw these states to create a bigger country and taxable land to put in place a strong representation of government and military. The situation came to stalemate with a compromise they choose to allow the newly won or bought territory to make the difficult …show more content…
The confederate states of America now had no force leaving several to die or to the union to pay for what they did what I believe to be treason. The confederate general surrender to the union general Ulysses S Grant and now abide by the newly formed laws of no slavery and writes to every man. After lee surrender their was not much for a fight. Lincoln went to Gettysburg and gave his famous Gettysburg address which everyone who is an America educated has heard it once again claiming the south one again as the united states of America. Many were happy the war was over but several were upset about even today. This becomes what as know as reconstruction. With Lincoln in the first time in his presidency he is able to concentrate on the country and start reconstruction. Which leads to the death of a president during the president visit to a theater he was left unattended that’s when John Wilkes Booth shut up into his private balcony and took out a pistol and shot President Lincoln in Point Blank Range. Lincoln died the next morning which lead vice president Johnson to president the next

    Ironically, the cause of the Mexican – American War was due to the politics of the U.S. President at the time, President Tyler. Tyler wanted to achieve a second term in presidency, but his name among the American people was not as well known in contrast to his opponent James K. Polk. President Tyler contemplated ways to make himself a more popular candidate, and came to a conclusion that would essentially foreshadow the coming of the war.     The Mexican War was one of the most influential events that contributed the increasing separation of the union. Much conflict arose on whether Texas and California should be free or slave states.     If the outcome of the Civil War was different and the South had won the war, there would be a countless number of changes in history. A few of the most significant effects would be the changes of Southern territory, changes economically, and the continuing dilemma with slavery. If the North were to lose the Civil War, the South would unquestionably conquer the Northern territories. With the South conquering Northern states, those states might also become slave states. The South may want the new Northern territories to work on a labor system similar to states with slave labor. Although, the North was much more industrialized and could depend on factories, which was different from the South which mostly depended on manual labor for farm plantations. Another major change would be differences in the economy after the war. The South would not have to suffer as much as they did because they could carry on using slave labor. They would not need to figure out a new system to profit from their farm plantations. The industries in the North would be taken over and would also contribute to the Southern economy. Reconstruction for the South would not take as long because of a well off economy. Also, by winning the war, the South would continue trade with England. That would be a large factor in their economy. The largest difference of all would be that slavery would continue afterwards and the thirteenth amendment to abolish slavery would not have passed. Even though slavery would continue, it probably would not continue forever and would end sooner or later due to economic troubles. Slavery carrying on would harm the economy and would cause issues later on, forcing it to come to an end. If that did not happen soon enough, then someone would have perhaps tried to put an end to it again. That would not happen as soon as the South won because it would take a while for reconstruction and for someone to attempt ending it once…

    Prior to 1860 the United States was already split into opposing sides fighting for power. Although these conflicts never reached the battlefield, the slaves states and free states were always competeing for representation in congress. Each side wanted more states for them to get more representation. To prevent too much conflict, they decided on numerous compromises such as the Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850. Although these did ease tensions to some degree, they were only delaying the enedible. It started when Abraham Lincoln was voted as president. South Carolina was the leader of the southern states and began the cesession of the states. After Lincoln was inaugurated in 1860 seven states ceded from the Union and soon after four more joined them. The south believed that they had the constitutional right to cede. (Doc A) South Carolina feared that the north would gain enough power over the south that they would abolish slavery in the south. South Carolina felt that their powers were being smuthered so they had no choice but to cede from the Union. This of course was the start of a very bloody war for both the northern and souther states. This conflict led to the Emancipation Proclamation and the freeing of the slaves in the south. However this was only the beginning of the revolution which the nation was going through.…
