Causes Of The Civil War Dbq Essay
During the 17th and 18th century, a war arose in the United States that had a tremendous impact on America as a whole. The war (Civil War) shaped America into what it is today. It made a change, a good change on the American people. Throughout this essay, I’m going to discuss what caused the civil war. In other words, there were many things that led up to the civil war, including, slavery, the south depending on the north, and the violence that was happening in both the South and the North. Therefore, the civil war was caused by a lot, mainly slavery.

Slavery was one of the most leading events that led up to the civil war. Considering the fact that the South had the most slaves and the population was so held on slavery, it was a huge advantage for the South and a disadvantage for the North. (Doc. 1) However, the South did like it and supported slavery, but most people argue that the Negro slaves in the South was happy, (Doc. 5) Everything that happened, from the slave trade to the slaves made an incredible impact on both the North and the South, but the …show more content…
Considering the fact that slavery was an issue for some and a lot of people liked it and a lot of people did not. An example of this of this dislike of slavery, was John Brown, his slave uprising in Virginia. There was a lot of violence that were involved, including hangings, shootings, and killings. (Doc. 6) In addition, the violence was so bad that politicians were physically fighting. It included, a pro slavery man and an anti-slavery man. Many of the fights led to more violence across the nation. (Doc. 8) Furthermore, escaped slaves even wrote about the horrifying nightmares of the violence. “This is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of the United States, at this very hour.” (Doc. 4) This was one of the most horrifying events that led up to a nation

The country was predominately divided up into 3 sections, the North, the South, and the West. Each of these groups had different fundamental interests. The North wanted economies depending on farming, factories and milltowns, while the West relied on expansion and development of land for farming and new towns. The South mainly relied on agriculture like tobacco, cotton, wheat or slaves and a cotton gin. While slavery is cited as the most common cause of the Civil War, it is believed that there were several other factors involved.
