How Did Stephen King Influence Society
Stephen King was and still is one of the greatest Horror writers in America. Stephen King was born to Donald Edwin King and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King on September 21, 1947 in Portland, Maine (“Biography” 2017). Although King did not have the best childhood or adult life that never stopped him from writing some of the most amazing Horror novels in America. He had many influences and still continues to write astonishing novels and influence some of America’s greatest most iconic motion pictures. King grew up with his family in poverty in Portland, Maine. King’s father, Donald, worked as a Merchant Navy. His mother, Nellie King, worked as a Health Professional. He eventually developed paranoia about death and he found that if he “If he wrote down his bad thoughts, it was easier to believe they wouldn’t happen in real life.” (Kimberlin, Madison 1). King continued to write and some of his novels such as The Shining, published in 1977, were written under the influence of cocaine and alcohol. King also had his third and final child in February of 1977 (“About the Author” 1). As King published more books and as those books began to be turned into films King had easier access to drugs, as there was many present at the parties that King was invited to for the kickoff of the films. Sadly his kids as well as his wife and friends had to suffer through his phase of addiction with him. King was at the point that his nose was bleeding uncontrollably because of his cocaine addiction that he had to keep a cotton ball up his nose, “In a new biography, King reveals that during the 80s he spent most of his time binging on drugs and Alcohol. So much so, King claims to have no recollection of writing some of his novels during that period.” (Kimberlin, Madison 1). “After years of waking in the morning to find her husband asleep in a vomit puddle beside his desk, Tabitha King decided she was done tolerating the behavior, she searched through his office and gathered all paraphernalia of his obsessive drinking and drug use. Tabitha threw Cocaine spoons, bags of white powder, bottles of Listerine and empty beer cans into a trash bin. Then she brought together their kids and a handful of friends to intervene. She emptied the contents of the bin onto the floor in front of King and warned that she would leave if he continued to self-destruct,” (Kimberlin, Madison 1). After this intervention put together by his wife, kids, and some friends he decided that he needed to get sober. It
