How Did Martin Luther King Change Today's Society
“Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed”. Martin Luther King is a very historically famous man. He fought for freedom and wanted racial equality for all. Martin Luther King Jr. very much wanted to be free for himself, but he was very unselfish and wanted to help free thousands. Martin Luther King is a very unforgettable man because he fought peacefully to make a great change in today’s society.
Martin Luther king was born on January 15, 1929 to the parents of Martin King and Alberta King. He was the second child of the family and was born at his maternal grandparents home. King was a baptist and would sing in the church choir. When he turned 5 years old, he began to attend a public school. In May 1947, Martin’s grandmother, Jennie, had died of a heart attack. He was so sad that he attempted to suicide, but he ended up wanting to live and if he did suicide we don’t know where we would be today. Jr. had become very tired of these laws called the Jim Crow Laws. Jim Crow Laws were segregation laws that took rights away from black people and gave more rights to white people. Martin Luther King Jr. was a powerful speaker and a great motivator. Jr. learned a lot from his experiences growing up. These rough times gave him the guts and the will to stand up for what he believes in. No matter what Martin Luther was always motivated to help the cause for the right thing.
