How Adversity Changed My Life
My voice is no longer silent, it is heard through the strokes of a paintbrush. My story is revealed piece by piece. My adversity is now creative growth. Expressing who I am has been a challenge for a long time. The people who I surround myself around see glimpses, never the full picture. I am an abstract individual, why you wonder, because it's how I grew up. As well as having an amazing support system. Also because I experienced so much in a short amount of time. Furthermore, I kept trusting in God. All those things led me to this stage in my life.

A reality I constantly faced growing up was knowing that my father was murdered and my mother was left to raise me with some help from my grandmother. I don't truly know what it is like having

That’s why it is great to have a support system. When things are not going well, I feel overwhelmed and even something is getting out of control I go to my support system. They are there for me for many reasons. A few examples who be helping me physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. My support system is not just family but a few close friends and old teachers as well. When I feel uncomfortable and feel like I can’t go to my family; I try talking to my best friend to relieve myself a little or counselor and/or teacher at West Catholic, even though I no longer attend. The people I am surrounded by being no longer temporary. They all have a special role in my life. That includes pushing me, challenging me, making me smile, laugh and so much more. Genuine people are the ones who support you, they are the ones that is best to keep around. I learned that some time ago, because I now live by that. The relationships I built took time to come together, renew and so forth. I pray I do not lose any one because I don’t know what I would do without them. Now that I look back at my life I could have been somewhere else in this world, possibly on the wrong path. Everyone motivated me to be the best that I can be and nothing less. I truly appreciate everyone supported through good times and

Kevin Conroy once said, “Everyone is handed adversity in life. No one’s journey is easy. It’s how they handle it that makes people unique.” Dictionary.com defines adversity as “adversity n. adverse or unfavorable fortune or fate; a condition marked by misfortune, calamity, or distress.” Adversity is something that everyone will experience at some point in his life; however, some people face greater adversities than others. Morrie Schwartz and Elie Wiesel are two men that faced two of the greatest adversities that this world knows. Elie is a survivor of Adolf Hitler’s destruction of the Holocaust, and Morrie Schwartz was a simple man who lost a battle to Lou Gehrig’s disease, or ALS. Everyone in their lives overcomes adversity whether it is from work or disability it is never easy. About a year ago, I faced my own near fatal struggle with adversity. When these moments in life hit, people see them as barriers, unable to be broken down. However, there is a point when an individual demonstrates their true qualities or characteristics, which would not have come to light unless an adversity had risen. Adversities can allow individuals to view the world in a new perspective due in part to their hard work, though this is not always the case as the pressure may become to intense for some individuals to conquer.…

To me a growth mindset means you overcome the obstacles. In other words when something gets in the way of your dreams and goals, you persevere. You learn from your mistakes and take into consideration how you could have done something differently in order to succeed. This reflection allows for growth. Defeat doesn't discourage you. Instead, it pushes you to do better next time.…

Ever since I was little I wanted to have a significant impact on the world to show my life is worthwhile. Obstacles have been part of my life struggles beginning at the age of three, when I was informed my mother would probably only live for one to two years, because she has an autoimmune disorder that was unidentifiable. However, my mother overcame the odds and is alive, but can’t function as a healthy individual. Thus me and my sister were home-schooled and I quickly stepped into the shoes of caretaker as my father had to work to support our family. Being a young girl and having the responsibility of cooking and cleaning and attend to my mother while she had seizures, but also having to minister to her, has ultimately changed my life.…

Throughout every person’s life, there always stands an obstacle to overcome. While some choose to retreat from the challenge, others choose to surmount whatever it is holding them back. I have always believed that if someone wants something bad enough, they will work however hard they have to in order to achieve their goal. I can honestly admit that through years of determination, research, and self-motivation I have been able to prevail over my adversity: stuttering. Many people try to mask this speech impediment with flowery terminology such as “blocking”, “bumpy speech”, or “mild disfluency.” To a stutterer, no matter how specialists or professionals refer to this disability, it is far from trouble-free. Each and every day I deal with stuttering with the conviction and determination to speak well.…

The story "Why we Tell Stories About Spider" refers to the overall theme "overcoming adversity" due to the spider overcoming all the animals using trickery and deceit. The first example of this is the bees. The bees symbolize the adversity that Anaanu was able to overcome by trapping the bees in a calabash. The second example of this theme is the snake, which again is the adversity. Anaanu overcomes the snake by tricking it to wrap around a pole and tying it to the pole. The final example is that of the leopard. The leopard does symbolize adversity and he overcame it by tricking it to jump into a hole. A quote that justifies these things is "If you want it, I will let you have it, but first you must prove to me you are fit to have it. This…

We’ve all heard the cliché “walk a mile in my shoes”, this week I had the opportunity to participate in an experiment that allowed me to experience adversity as a left handed person. The experiment correlated with our lecture on diversity and it was a challenge! It gave me a new perspective on the simple conveniences that I take for granted as a right handed person. It also allowed me the opportunity to reflect and evaluate my experience compared to the difficulties and adaptations other cultures may face.…

To this day, I think this was a major turning point in my life and the first time I really had to deal with adversity, When faced with adversity, I feel that I could be all three things: the carrot, egg, and the coffee bean.…

There have been many times in my life where I had to overcome adversity, but my best example was way back in elementary school from the grades kindergarten through 5th grade. I used to not care about my academic standpoint or ego on how people looked at me. I had the potential to be a very smart and excellent student and excelled in school but I didn’t take advantage and did everything possible to not do the work. In many circumstances, I would have lied or cheated so I wouldn’t have to do the work. My grades that I was getting was not a reflection of my smartness but a reflection of my arrogance and laziness. My parents would yell at me all the time and have long talks with me because they knew I was better than this and tried every possible…
