Overcoming Adversity
The story "Why we Tell Stories About Spider" refers to the overall theme "overcoming adversity" due to the spider overcoming all the animals using trickery and deceit. The first example of this is the bees. The bees symbolize the adversity that Anaanu was able to overcome by trapping the bees in a calabash. The second example of this theme is the snake, which again is the adversity. Anaanu overcomes the snake by tricking it to wrap around a pole and tying it to the pole. The final example is that of the leopard. The leopard does symbolize adversity and he overcame it by tricking it to jump into a hole. A quote that justifies these things is "If you want it, I will let you have it, but first you must prove to me you are fit to have it. This …show more content…
The first example that supports this theme is when the people lost the tracks of the snake which would be the adversity. They were able to overcome this by having a man smell the snake out. The second example is when the people could not go any further because water was set in their path. Finally they were able to get through, by having a man drink it all up. Another example of the theme is when the hole was covered up with mud, so to access the hole, the townspeople had to get a man to dig out all the mud. In this example, the mud symbolizes the adversity. The fourth example is when the townspeople could not reach the bottom of the hole due to how deep the hole was which symbolizes the adversity. They are able to overcome this by having a man with a long arm reach down inside the hole. The final example of the theme is when the townspeople found the chief's daughter dead because the snake had swallowed her. To overcome death the man healed her.The quote that led to all the dilemmas occurrences was "This they did and reported that both the girl and the man were missing." This applies to the theme overcoming adversity because this starts the rest of the adversities that set them on their hard journey. As you can see the townspeople overcame a lot of adversity to save one of their own. They over came the

I believe that the American Dream is something that people can still achieve. Although it isn’t something that you can grab however, and perchase. Indeed you have to earn it. You may fail before accomplishing the American Dream. Just because you fail doesn’t mean you can’t accomplish your dream you can always try something different and still be successful. However, don’t let anyone or anybody destroy your dream or ever tell you that your not going to amount to anything because that’s not true. I can refer to this beacause Bill Gates and President Barack Obama is an prime example of the American Dream. Barack Obama didn’t have that problem he believe his teachers and family told him that he would be successful. On the other hand Bill Gates did kids at school criticized and laughed at him calling him dreadful names. But that did not stop Gates from accomplishing his dream. Watching the hard working, caring people people in my life transformed me into a efficient and versatile person. I’ve watched my father and grandmother work hard to support my siblings and I. My father would go to his tedious job and come back home looking like he pulled an all nighter. Although being so tired, he would always check if I did my homework correctly and if I was okay. My grandmother, who takes care of my siblings and I, works hard to take care of us. Although she would always deal with my little sister’s constant wantings, she would always pick us up from school, buy us food, and take us to the zoo when we were little. My friends that maintain a 4.0 or higher GPA work very hard to maintain it. Some of them stay up until one in…
