Bayaning 3rd World: A Film Analysis The film Bayaning 3rd World is all about the two film makers who want to make a film about our National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal. The two film makers want it to be different from the other film about the national hero but there are so many films that cover the life of Rizal and it is very hard for them to make a film with something new and get the attention of the people. The two film makers decided to have the film to be all about the retraction of Rizal. The retraction of Rizal was shown by the use of the question and answer theme. The film makers ask questions to the people who are with Rizal when he is living like Josephine Bracken, his mother Dona Teodora, brother Paciano, sister Trining, sister Narcisa and also father Ballguer. The questions of the film makers were all answered by the one who they ask and that is the way how people will know the true life and true events on what happen when Rizal he is living. When I was watching the movie I analyzed that some of the events on Rizal life that we all know are some misleading and the film Bayaning 3rd World will make the corrections on the life of Rizal. Some of the false thinking is that Josephine Bracken loves Rizal but the truth is that Josephine is a conspirator of the Spanish friars for Rizal to make a retraction for him to marry

After I watched the movie, I remember the two novels of Rizal because it has some similarities. Examples were the following; when Ibarra was abducted and imprisoned, the unending love for Maria Clara, and in El Filibusterismo where Ibarra disguised as Simoun and plotted for revenge also. No doubt, why Rizal enjoyed reading the book of “The Count of Monte Cristo,” by Alexander Dumas. And why people tried to made it as a movie.…

The film "Bontoc Eulogy" is about an American-Filipino man searching for his roots. He looked for confirmation and facts through the mountain province where he got actual footages of how the igorots are living and through different museums and records in the United States. He edited all his clips and re-enactments and made a whole narrative out of it. He made the film a story of how his igorot ancestor Marko was peacefully living in the Mounatin provinces and how he was just simply separated from his own family to be displayed for the civilized men to see in the St. Lous' World Fair in 1904. At the end he showed himself looking for artefacts and relics in different museums and end the story of himself wondering whether he will find his lost igorot ancestor or not. This film was a combination of facts and fiction. The actual footages were all real but the narrative that he made was all fiction. He may have an igorot ancestor but no one knows if this igorot ancestor of him is really part of the St. Louis' World Fair in 1904. Though the igorot ancestor story of him is just a fiction, we all know that fiction is sometimes necessary to light up the national consciousness in us. Rizal also used fiction in his time to uplift our desire for the better of our country. His novels were a great factor in building up the national consciousness of his fellow countrymen and lead them to fight for what is right for themselves and for their country. I was amazed how Marlon Fuentes made this kind of film/documentary. I love how he touched our human emotions to nourish the nationalist dream inside us by using a documentary and creating a story of how the ifugaos, our natives suffered in the St. Louis World Fair in 1904.…

In the film Jose Rizal by Marilou Diaz-Abaya, many facts about the life and the last days of Dr. Jose Rizal was presented. However, many inconsistencies according to history were depicted in the movie. The inconsistencies, I think are to enrich and to give the movie more substance as it progresses. These inconsistencies were; the friend of Dr. Jose Rizal that visits him in his cell, Simoun died because of a gunshot, the writing of another ending for his novel El Filibusterismo, and the night on the eve of the last day of Dr. Jose Rizal were not spent with the Jesuits who persuaded him to retract.…

Jose Rizal wanted to marry Josephine Bracken, his last lover, and the one he loved so much and the only way to marry her is to make a retraction paper since he was a member of Masonry. According to the film, a retraction paper was submitted even without Jose’s signature. It became the climax of the film because we all know Jose Rizal doesn’t believe in church’ system but he believes in God and according to the retraction paper, Jose is asking for apology because of what he did towards the Catholic Church during his life, through his works, writings and even how he thinks about the church. In the letter, it is also included that he abominates Masonry because it opposes what church teaches. According to the interview of the two film makers with Doña Lolay and Paciano, they believed that Rizal did not retract because it was inconsistent to what he believed in. They also…

The movie Jose Rizal tells the life story of National Hero during the 19TH century where the Philippines is under the Spanish colonization. The film starts with Jose Rizal in Belgium where he was writing his Novel, but I think the most appropriate setting is the place where our National hero was born, and it was in Calamba, Laguna.…

Imprisoned in Fort Santiago under the abusive Spanish colonization, José Rizal (Cesar Montano) was approached by a young uneducated indio asking the importance of education during his life. Meanwhile, in Balintawak, Andrés Bonifacio (Gardo Versoza) and his fellow secret organization of Katipunan, commenced the uprising against the cruel tyranny created by the Spaniards by tearing their cedula as a sign of Spanish slavery.…

The film "Rizal: The Life of a Hero" and "Jose Rizal" are just some of the film formed in the previous period. The workmanship of the two films was so beautiful, so if I were Dr. Jose Rizal I will definitely like it especially the way how they approached the story of his life in putting it into the film. In the film "Rizal: The Life of a Hero" the distinction of this film is based on his written diary since childhood and some of the left letters that he gave to his family and friends. Presented here are some of the great events of his life and the incident gave reason to motivate him to become a hero. Noticed that it almost shown here all of his important achievements in all his life and especially the sacrifices he did for our country. Therefore, this film should only be the first one to watch because as a student I can appreciate it more clearly. As for the film "Jose Rizal", disclosed here that our national hero is truly talented as well as he used his own ability in a good way. It is making two of his famous novel titled El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere. Rizal became a doctor, a writer, a lover, an artist, a genius, a brother, son and a friend. Thus, all of them give high assessment of Rizal’s character. Despite much criticism and anger in him of the Spanish because of his novels made, Rizal still chose to sacrifice his life just to fulfill his desired freedom for the people against the Spanish colonial rule in…

In the middle of the movie, it became clear that they wanted to convey their project about Rizal’s retraction. The retraction is a written statement saying that Rizal signed by the priest, who says that Rizal is a returning Son of Catholics. It was probably his participation in Masonry, which is strictly prohibited in Catholic churches. He did it because he wanted revenge on the Spanish use of religion to slave Filipinos. Several issues arise and arguments. They got retraction to explain about Rizal by application of staff in the life of Rizal, were Doña Lolay (mother), Josephine Bracken, Doña Narcisa and Trining (female siblings), Paciano (brother), Father Obach (the priest confessor of Rizal and Bracken), Father Balaguer (one of the priests who worked with Rizal in his last time) and of course Jose Rizal.…

The film also works through a series of flashback showing Rizal as a genius, a writer, a doctor, an artist, a lover, a friend, a brother and a son, thus giving a rich texture of Rizal's character. I also commend the film for its bravery in showing the evil tyranny of the Catholic Church during that time. Considering that the Philippines is a Catholic nation, that is like butchering a sacred cow but alas, Abaya works her magic in depicting the suffering of the Filipinos because of the friars.…

The film starts with Dr. Jose Rizal (Cesar Montano) in Ghent, Belgium, supposedly writing his second novel, El Filibusterismo. As the narration during the opening minutes continued, scenes that illustrate Rizal’s first novel, “Noli Me Tanger” was shown and Crisostomo Ibarra and his alter ego, Simoun, (Joel Torre) was introduced. This stood more as a second story of the movie as the said scenes progress throughout the movie as Rizal’s thoughts. As the two novels spread throughout the Philippines, a certain and somewhat unassuming character in the name of Andres Bonifacio grabs a hold of a copy of a Rizal novel and instigates a rebellion with his founded Katipunan which upheld a full-blown revolution. Archbishop Bernardo Nozaleda (Peque Gallaga) takes notice of this, claiming that Rizal gave the primary incentive in the revolution and warns Governor-general Blanco (Bon Vibar) that if he does not take care of Rizal and the growing conflict, he will be replaced. As the hunt for Rizal continues, the Spaniards get a hold of his older brother, Paciano Rizal (Pen Medina) and tortures him to get to Rizal. Paciano does not give any information on whether Rizal was the source of rebellion or not and was continued to be tortured, only to find out that he was already captured by the Spaniards later on. Paciano was eventually released and left their home together with his father,Francisco Mercado. Rizal is then seen being escorted by the Spanish guards to be interrogated by a colonel who is convinced that Rizal is a traitor since his latest novel was dedicated to Father Gomez, Burgos and Zamora.…

The first time I heard we’re going to watch Rizal’s life, I admit, I don’t really get interested because for me why try to discuss lives of people who already passed away? Their time on earth already ended so why reminisce it? What I’m thinking is that I already appreciated what he had done to save us against those foreign dictators who stole our freedom during the 18th century so the idea of letting them rest in peace inculcates on my mind.…
