Doing Home Improvement Right

Singapore Home renovation and Interior Design

A good number of home improvement goals are never met because of poor planning. Rather than your personality, your prior experience with home improvement projects or other factors, it is asking yourself the right series of questions before you start working that makes all the difference. Take a look through the questions below and try to answer them all before attempting a project.

First, determine what goal you are truly trying to accomplish. Is renovating the bathroom necessary to help ventilation or to make it more aesthetically pleasing? Are you redoing the kitchen to allow easier access to different areas or is it to look more like your favorite TV chef's

If you're planning on building a new wing in your home or creating/expanding your swimming pool, for example, you may need to communicate with city officials in home capacity. Think about possible bureaucracy-related frustration you might have to endure and factor this process into your overall home improvement timeline.

Don't be too prideful and do the project yourself if you need someone's help. It's better to do a home improvement project the right way rather than the wrong way. (This notion seems common sense but is all too often overlooked by those wanting to take on a project independently!) Keep in mind that involving someone else usually means extra time and/or money you need to factor into the grand scheme of your project.

Of course, no matter how much prepping you do, there are always accidents. You tear something, you crack something, something is sticking out, etc. Especially if you're working with someone else who isn't a seasoned professional, you need to factor in Murphy's Law, i.e. "anything that can go wrong will go wrong." Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank founded the Home Depot in 1978. Along with investment banker Ken Langone and merchandising expert Pat Farrah, the founder’s vision of one-stop shopping for the do-it-yourselfer became a reality when they opened the first two Home Depot stores on June 22, 1979, in Atlanta, Georgia. The first stores, at around 60,000 square feet each, were enormous warehouses that dwarfed the competition and stocked 25,000 SKUs, much more than the average hardware store at that time. Empty boxes piled high on the shelves gave the illusion of even more product and in only one year they opened a 4th store in Atlanta and the company had annual sales…

Answer: The biggest challenge I see is not letting the project grow in size. It is very easy once the work starts, and wood gets cut to start adding little pieces to the project; added railing, more stairs, building an awning. Adding one or two little add-ons might not have a large effect on the scope, but trying to tackle them all would throw off everything. I have to make sure that we stick to the project guidelines.…

Most homeowners don't ask enough questions when hiring a contractor. You must check the work done by the contractor and find out their reputation in the market. Also, make sure they are insured and they have a valid license. If you are unable to get this information from the people you know, you can use the internet to get these details. Once you short-list the contractors that meet your requirement, don't hesitate to ask them questions. Always remember; when it comes to your home and money, there are no stupid…

The House I Live In by Eugene Jarecki is a documentary film about the war on drugs in the United States. It raises many contemporary intercultural concerns about the issue, but first it would be important to explain what cultural groups it highlights. We would first think about diving the war on drugs between drug users and law enforcement, but after watching this movie we can tell that there is a real intercultural issue amongst drug users and prisoners incarcerated for drugs. Indeed, we learn in the movie and its website that “even though White and Black people use drugs at approximately equal rates, Black people are 10.1 times more likely to be sent to prison for drug offenses. Today, Black Americans represent 56% of those incarcerated for drug crimes, even though they comprise only 13% of the U.S. Population”.…
