Hofstra Mission Statement
I first heard about Hofstra from a student who currently attends as an undergrad. As an individual with interests in all subjects, a liberal arts program appeals to me the most. In addition, Hofstra's mission statement aligned with my ideals: an environment that promotes the exchange of free ideas in order to grow.
One obvious problem in our contemporary society is the divide between political groups. When half of our nation refuses to compromise with responsibility and speak with civility to the other half, a deep hatred grows and further splits the homeland. "A house divided against itself cannot stand" and refusing to speak to others with differing ideas contributes to this effect. At just a brief glance from Hofstra's event page, there are numerous daily events that promote student engagement.
Some activities may be off campus, and Hofstra's location gives a strong advantage to students. Hofstra is about an hour away from New York City, and its close proximity provides opportunities to explore ethnic areas and meet people from all walks of life. This diversity also shows through Hofstra's goal to diversify the student body. Long
Island also contains a rich history of ethnic diversity with the arrival of migrants from all parts of the world.
Hofstra's small class size is also a good indication that students will be closer to their professors and to their peers. As a student who thrives in a classroom-like environment, a smaller class provides more opportunities for enrichment compared to a stuffed lecture hall.
Overall, Hofstra has many benefits for all students, no matter what their interests are. From a small class size to location to Hofstra's mission, not only will Hofstra provide me with ample amounts of student to student connections, but I can also give back to Hofstra in the form of an active member of the community and helping
