Highland Park Distillery: Case Study
Claiming the title of Scotland’s most northern whisky distillery, the Highland Park Distillery sits on the small island of Orkney and was founded in 1798 by Magnus Eunson. Sat on the side of a hill, the coastal air and nearby barley fields add to the unique flavours of their whisky.
A well known church usher by day and smuggler by night, Eunson based his illegal activities on High Park near Kirkwall, the location the distillery is now located. His illegal activities eventually caught up with him, and he sold his High Park estate, including the distillery, in 1813 to a syndicate which ironically included his arresting officer.
