High School Memories
Throughout high school, I had many great memories. From sports to girls to all the partying, I just wanted to know what everything was like. I cannot believe that it has come this fast. From being an inexperienced sophomore to a somewhat mature senior, things have really changed for me. Some say that "high school was the best time of my life", just like others say that high school was the worst time in their lives. I was just dying to experience all the new and exciting things that awaited me. I've had plenty of good times, as well as just as many bad times, in high school. And the most important thing is that, not just that I learned through the books, but I learned about life and the road ahead of me. I started high school as a brash and cocky athlete. Being a student athlete really changed me during my freshman and sophomore year. It made me a better student but it also changed my attitude . I was a kind person and caring for my best friend until I dedicated all my time into basketball. Being a basketball player, I had to do well in class and maintain a certain gpa in order to play. My school work ethic improved but my sleeping schedule was very irregular. I focused only on basketball to improve my skill and being the best. I had no social life except a basketball life. Sophomore year, I started to realize that the basketball program was unfair. The coach tends to move his favorite players to varsity level. He also gives his favorite players more playing time than others. Even though, I was better than his favorite players, he would never give me playing time. Eventually I learned that life is not fair and you just got to deal with it. I left the program with my friends that was going through the same thing as I was.
After quitting the team, I was able to focus more on school and having a social life. Throughout the years in basketball, I always listened to my coaches lecturing about life lessons to prepare me. As I am older now, I tend to reminisce about

I played basketball for all four years of my high school. I was on the freshman team my freshman year, Junior Varsity team my sophomore year, and played Varsity my junior and senior year. My freshman year I was voted team captain and that helped me gain leadership skills and communication skills. I earned the award of honorable mentioned in basketball. In Basketball I practiced a lot, because I knew I could get better. Throughout basketball we had several coaching changes. We had Mr. Smith then Mr. Parker and now Mrs. Smith as coaches. Having a different coach every year I feel like it was making it more difficult for the players to grow as a team and ourselves. Each coach had very different ways of teaching the game. Even though it was hard to have coaches leave we also gained different amounts of knowledge from each one, which I thought was a great privilege to get to…

First of all, playing sports is one of my favorite things to do. They teach me discipline and I must do and Not do what coach says. Sports also teach me good sportsmanship. I learn to love the game by playing my opponent/friends and showing how to take a win or loss. Last year playing basketball we didn’t lose but one game, I was devastated. I like to think I took the Loss ok but I just blamed it all on myself. I got to show my winning spirts in a ton of games that season, and I think I showed my happiness well. Our team didn’t brag or show off we simply just played our game, and the results turned out as they may.…

My summer was an inch away from being perfect. I had a good GPA and people to hangout with, but I was missing one thing: starting on the basketball team. Basketball was going great beside that one problem, but I just could not remove the obsession of starting from my mind. Basketball and happiness go hand in hand for me. Over the next month basketball and my attitude started spiraling downwards and brought my happiness and friendships with them. I isolated myself from nearly everybody and dreaded basketball more and more every day. It’s funny how one thing can truly control your life. I understand if your a professional athlete or your in love with a women, but I was just a sixteen year old who loved the game. I understand that you need to treat sports as not a job,…

I joined MYB in 5th grade. I wanted more of a competition league after coming from Upward basketball. The first year my team was horrible and everyone went their separate ways after the season. I joined Dave Buffenbarger’s team the following year hoping for a better outcome. A lot of the girls on that team were some of my close friends, and some were not. This was not a problem as we quickly became close. MYB gave me the chance to make new friends through their league and become even closer with my old friends. With a few players always coming and going after each season, I ended up playing for Dave up until my senior year. Being on Dave’s team for so long gave me the chance to grow close to my teammates. Being with my team for many years and…

Ever since I could walk, basketball was my life. I played it all year round and enjoyed every second. I played on an elite, national AAU basketball team and received a couple collegiate offers. So finally when it came time for varsity basketball, I was ready to play at that next level. When tryouts rolled around, it was all I could think of. Basketball consumed my thoughts. On the last day of tryouts, when I got called into a little white room for a one-on-one talk with my new head coach, all I could think about is what position I will be playing throughout the season. But when my basketball coach said, “You didn’t make this year’s girls basketball team,” I was in disbelief. He later stung me with the statement, “I thought you would be crying more,” which is when my emotions and thoughts changed. At first, my friends and family supported me as I faced a setback in my life. But then, as time went on, society went back to their daily routine, unaware of the thoughts going through my head. This experience changed me and how I look at every situation. It inspired me to think differently when adversity hits. Eventually, I tried new things like indoor lacrosse, skiing, became an officer in DECA, and continued to play AAU and intramural basketball. I trusted my Christian faith and realized He does have a plan and purpose for every individual. From November 19, 2012, I had two choices: to move on or dwell on the situation. I choose to change my thoughts and my perspective and plan for the future.…

Starting high school was a terrifying idea to me. Different teachers, class times, lockers, drama! I remember that I always looked up to my older sister while she was in high school. She had tons of friends, played sports, participated in student government, and went out for the school play. I wanted to be just like her when I started high school. In middle school, I lined myself up for this, I played soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter. I helped out in the school plays, and I joined the student government. I had a group of great friends, and thought nothing bad was going to happen.…

High school was my time to stop fooling around. The first day of high school, I awoke to the aroma of coffee brewing on the stove. As I get ready to head out my sister approached me, and told me “Education is the key that opens the door many possibilities you can be and do in your near future” I was so nervous the sweat started dripping from my palms, and I suddenly felt 15 degrees hotter. I was nervous, I knew this is the time to get serious. Immediately a thought came across “ how well I do these four years can affect my entire life”. At first high school might look like a time to have fun and have no worries, which was my initial thought. Later on you start to realize that you need work hard. I thought “How would my future look? I don’t want to end up hopelessly. I want to make something of myself. Sometimes it can be hard though. I just have to work through the pain. At this point it’s make it or break it, success is my only…

Growing up we all looked forward to starting high school, but how many of us enjoyed every bit of it? High school was a moment that I looked forward to; thoughts of doing what I finally wanted to flood my mind. In June 2008, I received my GSAT result and was delighted when I saw that I passed for the William Knibb Memorial High School; although a bit disappointed because it wasn’t on my top five list. High school was not everything that I expected. In a few days, I met a few nice people. The first week of school was amazing, but after a few weeks things started getting intense. High school; however, was no bed of roses, especially when it came onto the subjects, reports, and school rules.…
