High School Experience: My Experiences That Changed My Life
During my high school career, I participated in the MCJROTC program. It was there I met three Marine instructors that changed my life. I had them for four years, and every moment I spent with them was with pleasure. Each and everyone had a different influence on me from their advice, help, and the way they taught. Two of them, Major Wirsig and Sergeant Major Pereida, made the most influence on me with their different approaches in life. Major Wirsig retired after thirty eight years in the service. He is an officer in the Marine Corps. Major Wirsig focuses more on education and intelligence as an officer. He has worked at Irving High School ever since the MCJROTC program first got introduced and been through all its developments. Major Wirsig …show more content…
Major’s major concern is on education and classes. He made sure we were passing all of our classes before we got involved in any activity. He would always provide me with time to do my homework and class work. After finding out I was currently second in my class, he made sure he did all he could to ensure I had the best learning environment and gave me lectures on how important education is in the future, whether I’m in the service or not. He gave me advice and hinted me towards getting involved in high school. He would tell me, “The more involved you are, the more you would get noticed.” Another major concern of his was time management. He allowed me to manage my time properly to succeed. Without him, I wouldn’t take education as seriously as I do now. He allowed me to realize the importance of education in life and how much it can impact one …show more content…
He has been in the service for thirty two years. As an enlisted Marine, his mission is to allow us all to succeed as leaders. Sergeant Major has been working as a Marine instructor since 2001 at Irving High School. As the youngest Marine instructor, he still has a lot to learn, but is capable of getting the job done. Sergeant Major is more of a chill and relaxing instructor. He likes to joke around and be humorous when he can. He makes jokes of himself being the best looking instructor and talks about him being the best. Although he likes to joke around a lot, he never gets too friendly. Not as strict as Major, he takes our mistakes more seriously. His form of punishment is physical activity to ensure what he is trying to get us to understand is developed through pain. When he has a mission, his priority is to accomplish it. Sergeant Major likes to put his cadets to work to get whatever he needs

The reason my academics aren’t going well as you or I would like is because of the several family issues I’ve had to face during my high school career. It began my Sophomore year, I found out my mom needed surgery in her arm so the chances of her cancer spreading would be reduced. I was under a great deal of stress worrying about my mother, taking care of my four siblings making sure they knew everything was going to be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself. It was all up to me; while my other brother worked to help with bills, my mom being in the hospital, and my dad working. Taking care of my siblings consisted of cooking, homework, cleaning, nightly routine, and putting them to bed. When the work was done it would be around 10 o'clock. It was already tough to buckle down and focus on homework without all the stress. With all this my first semester grade was less than great.…

I've been growing up with both parents and my older brother in a safe home and parents that took care of me and never made me worried about anything. I past my High School with a lot of A's. I never got into trouble in my High School years, but it all went wrong when I moved away from my home. I moved to a little apartment in the market, not that long away from where I grew up. But it was different.Graffiti and gunshots were a part of everyday and every night too. I didn't really have any friends from High School because they all moved to other countries or cities, so I started on the streets. During my freshman year of high school I received a letter in the mail. This letter was an invitation to play basketball in Australia, with other boys and girls of my age. The date was September 13, 2011. The letter stated that we would be leaving June 1, of 2012. Of course I wanted to go as soon as I read the letter, but my family was more curious about the trip. We did some research and figured out everything that would be offered on this trip. In my research I read of playing Australian basketball games, snorkeling, swimming in the ocean, surfing, and spending three days on Tangalooma Island. This was enough to convince my family that it would indeed be a fun trip for me to attend.…

There have been several occasions where I’ve felt my body respond to an emotionally charged situation, but most recently, I would have to say is going back to school. I am a 34 year old, single mother of two. I didn’t graduate from a typical high school due to issues at home but did wind up obtaining my H.S. Diploma from an adult high school. My family does not play much of a role in mine or my children’s lives. My ex was abusive towards me for ten years before I finally had enough and left, taking my kids to a domestic violence shelter until re-gaining my independence, currently providing them with a beautiful home. Although this is typical for many, I am the only person in my family to make an attempt at college and hopefully will be…
