CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction Nowadays, students not just study but also learn other things through extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities are those that are not directly related to the general purpose of school education which is to teach students academically per se it teaches students variety of things that later on becomes their hobbies or interest like learning sports, cooking and etc.
Extracurricular activities is said to have many good impacts on a student’s life whether it is academically or socially. Joining this activities make a student seem well rounded in knowing variety of things and responsible in managing their time wisely. Also, it bring students more closer to each other because these activities open up their social lives which later on form bonds based on common interest. These also serve as a break of the students from their lessons for what they learn from these activities is of their own interest. It is said that those students who joins in extracurricular activities perform better in school than those who are not.
The researcher chose this topic for she is interested in wanting to know the effects of extracurricular activities to the academic performance of those high school students who are part of her research study.
Statement of the Problem
The main objective of this study is to know the effects of extracurricular activities to the academic performance of the 2nd year high school students of Village School of Parkwoods. This study aims to answer the following questions: 1. What are the effects of extracurricular activities to the student who participates in it?
