Direction for Some, Support for Others The case is about Daniel Shivitz, who is the manger at a small business called The Copy Center. This case discusses how Daniel is able to run a profitable business and keep his employees happy. Daniel is very good manager who does not yell at his employees, works around their school schedule and helps them out if they are stuck. He treats his work environment as a family type business. Daniel’s business is split into two departments, which use different skills and have different responsibility. The two different departments are duplicating services, and desktop publishing. He has been able to change his leadership style to incorporate both departments. The result of his employees being happy is the success of the business. The Copy Center has been more successful than the other two other businesses in the area.
Daniel as an Effective Leader The path- goal theory describes Daniel is an effective leader, because he is able to motivate his employees with his leadership skills. The path-goal theory describes, that a leaders behavior has to best fit the employee and the work environment to obtain all the goals set. He knows sometimes the work may be challenging and time consuming so he rewards his employees. Daniel lets his employees chat with each other on the job so they don’t feel pressured. The staff knows what is expected from them from Daniel. The employees feel involved in the business as a family because of the excellent work environment. Daniel also is willing to work around his employee’s work schedule even if they are full time or part time. He gives his employees all the space they need, and if they need help he is willing to step in and help them. If the employees feels down or tired Daniel motivates them.
Leadership Style Affect on Employees’ Motivation Daniel knows how to motivate his employees in a very positive way. He lets all his employees chat on the job and
