Helen Keller A Hero Essay
There are heroes everywhere in the world, but a lot of people would say Helen Keller stands out. She was a courageous, encouraging, and hardworking woman despite her many disabilities. She was a true hero. A hero, according to dictionary.com is “a person who, in the opinion of others, has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model.” That is the definition of who Helen Keller was; she was a role model to many people.
One of the many things you could say about Helen is that she was courageous. Throughout her life she showed great courage despite many difficult challenges. Helen was blind and deaf and couldn’t communicate for the first part of her life. She had a teacher, Anne Sullivan, who would help her and became a very important figure in her life. Once, Anne taught her the basics she needed to know, Helen began to learn very quickly and was very smart. Helen began to be able to give speeches and Anne had a big goal, for her to graduate from college. For example, she would have to put her hands on a person’s mouth to know what they were saying. She had to practice a lot to learn to speak. It was hard because she could not hear her own voice or what it sounded like. Helen became different after her teacher came and pushed her to do her best. She became more dedicated to learning to speak, all because of her teacher, Anne Sullivan. She worked harder than most to achieve her and Anne’s lifetime goal for her, which was to graduate from college.
