Harry Potter

Today on the bookpost, a review of Harry Potter, written by J.K. Rowling. Now, don’t you worry, this isn’t a fangirl screaming that the world can screw itself, because Harry Potter is like the best book in the world. I will try to be unbiased. On a book review. Ha!
So, Harry Potter is one of those books. You know what I’m talking about. It’s the “I haven’t read Harry Potter” and the response from the world is something of an angst filled teenager, hissing at sunlight. It is considered the HOLY BOOK for the Young Adults Fantasy. On Tumblr, fanfiction, Facebook, twitter, pinterest, instagram and any other social media, it is littered with their quotes and their fandom. It is heavily based on Fantasy, but it contains aspects of thriller, adventure and romance. As I’ve mentioned before, it is written by J.K Rowling, who is somewhat known as the GODDESS. People hail and bow down at her feet (well, not much anymore, because of Casual Vacancy- but I’ll get to that later in a different review), but my opinion towards her holy-ness is somewhat neutral. Now, before I actually start to delve into the parts, I repeat once again, I will try to be unbiased.

Plot
Harry Potter starts its journey of 3407 pages in Number Four Private drive with relatives, uncle, aunt, and his cousin called Dudley. Who is a half-timelord. Really. The actor that plays Dudley in the Harry Potter films, Harry Melling, is actually the grandson of Patrick Troughton, who played the second doctor. Anyways, His relatives are status-conscious family who does not like Harry’s mother because she is a wizard and the aunt feels inferior, and then Harry gets a letter goes to Hogwarts and blah blah blah. Honestly, who doesn’t know the plot?
However, I guess to suppose to give you an actual serious idea of how the series go. So, it is basically a video game. So first, you are bestowed with magical powers. Then you train. Fight boss. Level up! Train. Fight boss. Level up! Train. Get magical creature. Fight boss. Level up!- and so on until you reach the final boss and defeat that flat-nose bastard.

Characters.
Okay. There are a LOT of people in this series. Let’s just start with the few.
Harry Potter- protagonist
Ron Weasley- Protagonist’s loser sidekick friend
Hermonie Granger – should be Harry’s love interest but is not.
Albus Dumbledore – old crazy wizard
Serverus Snape – love sick bastard who is not really a bastard because he’s cool
Mineva McGonagall – cat
Cho Chang – Harry’s crush
Bartemius Crunch – Tenth Doctor
Cederic Diggory- SPARKLY VAMPIRE
Dudley Dursley – Half timelord
Veron Dursley – fat thing
Petunia Dursley- skinny thing
Argus Flinch – the one with the cat
Nicholas Flamel – the secrets of immortal (good book)
Mudungus Fletcher – Thief
Cornelius Fudge – the incompetent one
Gregory Goyle – Minion 1
Vincent Crabbe – Minion 2
Draco Malfoy – the hot one
Remus Lupin – Woof
Bellatrix Lestrage – the crazy one
Luna Lovegood – the high one
Sirius Black – let’s not talk about it
George Weasley – Fred Weasley.
And the list goes on and on and on
They are not THAT generic but they are not completely original either. Then again, what’s completely original? Everything that came out after Hunger Games just seems like a remix of Distopian.

Writing Style.
*sigh* Man. J.K. Rowling Writing Style. If I had to choose one word to describe it, it’ll be descriptive. She breaks many writing guidelines. For instance, she tells more than she shows, uses passive voice, loads her work with adjectives and adverbs--yet, it works for her. This is a topic of major controversy and I won’t dwell on it for too long. One thing to be noted is that this set her apart from other writers. Maybe this is one of the factors of why Harry Potter was such a big boom.

Final Verdict.
Harry Potter is a book that I definitely recommend to read. And to buy.
The aspect of Wizard and Witch school is enticing and wands and magic is enough to make you wait for your letter.

If you have read Harry Potter and are looking for books similar to it, all I can recommend to you is to cry in a corner, because that void will go on for a long time. There aren’t magical books about wizard and witches going to schools that are to the quality of Harry Potter. However, if you want a good book that has similar themes, I must recommend the Percy Jackson series. A book about a demigod finding out his powers, making friends and defeating monsters. Finds pretty similar right?
And the Lord of the Rings. It’s about a Hobbit finding the ring. VERY VERY popular and good book. It’s is however, quite a step from the young adult fantasy of Harry Potter.

Now, before this review ends, I feel like I should tell you how I overcame my Harry Potter void. It requires three steps.
1. Reread the books
2. Read fanfiction of Harry Potter at fanfiction.net or Wattspad.
3. Wait for author to upload.

I recommend Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Dan Brown is a famous mystery writer and this is one of his famous books. It’s enticing and may be what you need to get over that void called Harry Potter.
