The story begins when the rocket has just exploded and the crew is falling through space. They have space suits on, so they can breathe and talk to one another through a radio. They estimate that they have an hour or so to speak to one another before they drift too far apart. Hollis, the main character, is falling towards the Earth, while the Captain is falling towards the moon. They are all scared and Hollis kills one man who starts screaming uncontrollably because they cannot talk to one another on the radio while he screams. As they talk, at first they try to calm each other down, but then some of them become mean. Applegate tries to hurt Hollis by saying that he destroyed his career and Hollis lashes out at Lespere when he reminisces about the fulfilling life he has had. Afterwards, Applegate apologizes to Hollis and Hollis realizes that he has led an empty life. He wishes that he could do something to make up for it by helping someone. Gary Soto's "The Pie"

Prominent American authors such as Mark Twain, Jonathan Edwards, and Nathan Hawthorne extensively emphasize in their works the role guilt plays in a person's conscience and society. In Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Twain builds up the plot by thoroughly describing the guilt Huck feels after he helps Jim, the slave, to run away. As a young boy, Huck disregards the society's values and chooses his own path, whether it be right or wrong. Much like his literary predecessors, Gary Soto deals with his own confrontation with the inner conscience after committing an act that he considers sinful. In his memoir "The Pie", Soto achieves to warn his audience of obtaining sinful temporary pleasures at the expense of eternal torture of the conscience by employing the use of literary devices such as metaphor, allusion, and motif.…

Belonging is a feeling an individual experiences when they feel a sense acceptance within a group. Maestro is written in the first person with an adult Paul, the main character, reflecting back over his life. It begins with Paul and Keller’s first meeting and they are both presented to us as rather arrogant and insensitive. However, when the adult Paul then interjects into his story about how he can understand that it might be incredible to believe that he came to ‘love this man’, his gruff music teacher the reader is brought to the realisation that there is a lot more depth to those characters and to their emotions than we might have previously thought. Throughout the book, Paul’s attitude towards Keller changes many times usually as a direct result of the way Keller treats him. For example, when Keller throws away one of Paul’s manuscripts, Paul fiercely hates him but when Keller surprisingly says that Paul should have won the music competition, Paul once again feels genuine affection for him. These changes in feelings by Paul show that he is a character who often lets his heart rule his head, and that his behaviour is very often dictated by his emotional condition.…

I have been doing art for as long as I can remember. From the time I was in Kindergarden to my senior year in high school I've been doing arts and crafts. I've had art teachers, vacation bible school leaders, and my parents teaching me how to create things my whole life. I usually only recieve art instruction when I sign up for art courses. I've completed all sorts of art projects including paintings, clay, abstract, landscapes and all other types of activities. I had two very good art instructors in high school and they were very critical and rewarding and that probably is why I enjoy art as much as I do. I've had a very broad range of activities from drawing with charcoal and pencils to painting and sculptings. For the most part most of my art activities weren't holiday centered they were more of your own imagination and idea's. All of my art projects were graded on pretty specific grading rubrics. It measured how much you worked on it and made sure that you followed all of the necessary guidelines. I have had a great experience with art in my past and I'm excited to learn more about it. My strengths in art I would say would be that I really enjoy drawing and shading pictures of things and my weakness is that I don't really know that much about the history of art and where it all came from. Art relates to society very much so. Advertising is used everywhere you go and you wouldn't have that without art skills. I am very excited to learn more about the history of art and sharpen up my old art…
