Gun Violence Argumentative Essay
Guns have been in the public’s hand for thousands of years and for just as long unnecessary gun violence has been around. Gun violence has been plaguing the United States for some time now and nothing has been done about it. More gun laws should be enacted so suicides, crimes, and accidental deaths that involve firearms are a lot less likely to happen then they are now. The more obsolete gun violence the better and this is a step toward that. Most everybody who defends the right to keep guns available to the public cite the 2nd amendment and how guns can be used for protection in their arguments. They claim that making gun control laws would go against this amendment making it unconstitutional. The second amendment states that, “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”(U.S. Const. Am. 2). This amendment was meant to protect the rights of state militias but is often misinterpreted. This gives gun owners a false sense of entitlement to owning firearms, when really gun control laws could be put in place and be considered constitutional. On top of that the …show more content…
“Design defects in firearms contribute to unintended fatalities.” (Rosenthal 33). Guns can accidentally go off and seriously injure or even kill innocent people due to bad to design. Guns put peoples life at risk by being in the same area as them. Another reason the public should not be able to have their hands on guns is that, “the presence of a gun in a conflict more likely to turn violent.” (Gun Control). This shows that when people have guns and a conflict develops they are more likely to jump to violence then to settle it peacefully. Settling altercations with violence is never the correct way to go and guns seem to promote the wrong way to handle it. The more guns kept out of communities the

All in all, it is not a good choice for American society at the present stage to ban gun. From the constitutional view, Gun Ban is contrary to the constitution of human rights and protection spirit; from the political view, it will increase the risk of tyranny; from the economic view, it will lead criminal squares to become one of the guns of the monopolist; from the social reality view, it leads to the lack of citizen means of self-defense; finally, from social culture view, it does not conform to the American culture tradition and social psychology. I think the key to the problem of gun crime is not the gun itself, but the deep problems of the society, such as poverty, social life and so on. I think gun control is just a…

For years now our country has been in a heated debate on the second amendment. Some people feel that it is not safe to let citizens have and carry guns, while others agree it is their right as an american to own a gun. In America, there are approximately 270 million firearms possessed by civilians, and only 897,000 carried by police.Close to 33,000 Americans were victims of gun-related deaths in 2011 and an average of 268 citizens are shot every day. In the past decade our country has witnessed 142 mass school shootings and, in 2010 alone 19,392 people committed suicide with a gun. These frightening statistic are what I believe cuz some people to be against the second amendment.…

Every day, dozens or even hundreds of people find themselves victims of gun violence. 30,000 people on average are killed each year by firearms while 64% of all firearm deaths are suicides, and firearms are the third-leading cause of injury-related deaths nationwide. ("Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence," May 11, 2015). With those statistics, it would make sense why people think that gun control is the answer, and some regulations like background checks and increased penalties for those convicted of using guns in crimes are needed.…

Although guns provide a good way to protect us, they also offer an effective method to kill others. Perhaps many people may argue that gun is just one of the numerous tools killers use, they believe that gun control can’t eliminate murder. However, “The biggest problem with firearms is they kill quickly and they kill efficiently. The problem there is the instant impulse leads to death” (Schoener). Even though the government set up several restrictions for owning guns, killers can easily get them. What is worse, with the gun culture, people are more likely to release their anger by shooting. These entire make the gun law the most dangerous law we’ve ever…

The Second Amendment states, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Proponents of more gun control interpret it as being meant for the militia and that the gun laws should be stricter for the average American citizen or ban guns altogether. However, opponents of more gun control believe that the amendment is protecting an individual’s rights right to own guns and protect themselves. However, gun control laws do not deter crime; gun ownership deters crime. Guns will still exist even if it’s not legal for civilians to own them because there is always a way for criminals to get a hold of them, it has been proven in history, and don’t prevent gun related deaths.…

Gun violence is one main thing that tears families apart. Crazy, non-educated people roam the streets with dangerous weapons killing people and causing tragedies. Society would have done better if only police had the access to weapons and guns instead of civilians and criminals, although they could be confiscated. Gun violence incidents have been happening for a very long time, most of the time without a reason. Shootings, robberies, etc. all include the use of a weapon like a gun. These things happen every day. For example, if someone is trying/planning on killing someone, they won’t be able to do that without a weapon. Guns are meant for self-defense, people like gangsters don’t use them the way they’re supposed to be used, but why? Using them not the right way will get them in trouble and do nothing but get them thrown in jail, just use guns in the proper form, for self-defense, not homicidal kills. It is important to always stay cautious of your…

Guns do a lot of bad, but do a lot more good for society. Banning guns will not stop the problem, but will just make it worse. Guns are apart of our society as Americans they have been around since colonial years, and are not leaving anytime soon. “The number of guns in America has increased by more than 50 percent since 1993, and in that same period the gun homicide rate in the United States has dropped by half. (Kristof, The Times).” Guns offer protection for individuals. One day you could be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a shooting breaks out, you will pray there is someone else there with a concealed firearm to help control the situation while waiting for police to arrive. They can’t do that if guns are banned. “We need to understand that we cannot stop crimes and murders. And banning guns would be a step, or two, backwards instead of moving forward in the right direction (The Times News).” The research conducted to produce this paper was drawn from a multitude of sources all with different…

The idea of violence and mental illness in the news can affect society in many different ways. News articles that focus on mental illness is intended to change society’s opinion on gun control to make them believe it is the person’s fault for the gun violence. Instead of finding fault in the guns itself, people want to blame mental illnesses for causing all the problems in the world, “conservative commentator Anne Coulter provocatively proclaimed ‘guns don’t kill people- the mentally ill do”’ (Metzl and McLeish). Blame is being put on people with mental illnesses and no one is blaming the actually weapons. In reality the blame should be put on both the guns and person. The people who are committing these crimes are not sane people, and they have many problems. They can be extremely dangerous to the world, but so are guns. People have discovered that “60% of perpetrators of mass shootings in the Unites States since 1970 displayed symptoms including acute paranoia, delusions, depression, before committing a crime” (Metzl and McLeish). How many of this mass shootings are publicized in the media? The answer is that more than…

Each year, a number of people die from guns. The popular saying is “guns do not kill people, people kill people” which is true; however, guns are used to aid in violence and many would argue that eliminating guns through stricter laws would decrease violence. As the number of gun owners in the world increases the government and its citizens would benefit from implementing stricter regulations regarding the safe keeping of guns in the home. The lack of gun safety results in the ability to access these guns with distressing outcomes. While many individuals argue that guns need to be restricted within the United States, the real argument is for allowing the Constitutional right to bear arms while implementing stricter laws to ensure these firearms do not fall within the wrong hands.…
