Lopez was definitely in the wrong in bringing a gun to school, but it should have been up to the state to punish him and Congress should not have gotten involved. I too think that this case kept or court system in check too. If the Court had agreed with Congress then I believe it would have increased Congress’s power. This case showed that Congress could not get away with saying it fit effected the interstate commerce.…
Should anyone be allowed to carry a firearm on a school campus? There is a need to know more facts surrounding the concept of guns on campus. A person must determine their stance on this and why they believe that. This paper is not designed to persuade a person but let them become aware of things they may not have…
Many colleges think they can just do what they want in the sense of rules on campus, which is just about right, but they can only go so far. Due to the second amendment it states that we as humans have the right to bare arms, which means we can carry weapons but with the right permits. So colleges can go ahead and make rules as to guns on campus but according to the amendment anyone that is of the age and is allowed to can carry a gun on them in public. Weather or not they use it in a safe matter is the problem that comes up. But most students on campus that carry theses guns have been through thorough background checks and piles of paper work to be able to do so. Therefore carrying a gun on campus is legal but to an extent but these students should be monitored and have a close eye on them, because you never know what is going on in there…
Will having students carrying handguns on campus actually make students feel safer? Texas Senate recently passed a bill that all students at least 21 years of age with a license to carry concealed handguns will be allowed to carry their weapons on college and university campuses. Legislation allowing handguns on campus violates the sense of protection students feel when at school, leaving many questioning civility. In April of 2007, Virginia Tech experienced one of the deadliest shooting In U.S history by a student, leaving 20 people injured and 32 slain.…
Guns on a school campus is an issue with two clear sides, those who support allowing concealed weapons and those who rally for gun free zones. David Burnett supports the idea of allowing students to carry concealed weapons. Burnett’s central argument is that gun free zones leave students defenseless. Darby Dickerson disagrees, saying students do not understand the responsibilities of owning a weapon and should therefore, not be allowed to carry them on campus.…
Guns are a double-edged sword when it comes down to it. Guns provide many people the ability to feel safe and protected, while other guns are constant reminder that some freedoms are taken too far. Guns privileges are abused, misused, and mistreated. Young people glorify toting weapons like it’s a new fashion statement. Missing the fact, that what in reality is causing uproar and panic amongst everyone else. That is why I feel like guns should not be allowed on college campuses.…
Concealed carry vs. colleges is a story about don’t allow guns in campus. The gun control and gun rights is becoming a more and more popular topic after few gun shooting tragedies happened in schools, people are starting to worry about the security in schools. This story is part of editorials and debates in USA TODAY, and this story is published on September 27, 2012. There is no exactly author’s name in the story. In the beginning, the story has an introduction about students in Colorado are allowed to carry guns about anywhere after summer break because in 2008 ,public colleges can no longer ban guns on campus in Colorado. Then the author writes some opposing views about allowing concealed-carry on campus, and tells people it is dangerous that allow students carry guns in campus. In the story, the author effectively and persuasively employs the rhetorical appeals of ethos and pathos to support author’s point which is universities should…
Many people have different views on the topic of the guns on campus. Which being said the question is should colleges and universities allow guns on campus. I believe guns on campus would cause more fear and risk for students, not all conceal and carry holders are “law-abiding” citizens, and, lastly, only security guards should carry guns. Therefore, colleges and universities should only allow securities to have guns on campus for protection and everyone else should be forbidden.…
More guns on campus or not? There is a huge controversy about guns on college campuses. Recent studies show how blocking student’s ability to carry a firearm makes colleges and universities some of the safest places in the United States. Depending on an individual’s views, there are many arguments that can be made for both sides of the controversy. My personal views on guns and concealed carry are the total opposite. Having learned about firearms at a young age along with training and practicing for years. I have learned how to handle them and use them proficiently. Having guns on campus would help deter an active shooter. A college or university would no longer be known as a gun free zone. Increases in suicides are of a big concern but I believe…
In recent years, there have been many school shootings. Students and faculty deserve the right to carry a firearm to protect themselves. There have been many occasions when the campus police were not able to protect students and faculty. The second amendment gives the right for Americans to bear arms. However, firearms should not be allowed on college campuses because people will feel unsafe, some individuals do not know how to use a gun, and officers will become confused.…
Many advocates of firearms are in agreement that firearms should be allowed on campus. In the past years, there have been shootings on college campuses that killed many and injured many. Allowing those who are licensed and trained to carry firearms on campus would seemingly act as a deterrent to those who may have ill intentions and often are carrying illegal firearms.…
Gun violence is any act committed by the use of a firearm that causes bodily injury or fatality. Gun violence in the United States has become increasingly evident and has led to mass tragedy nationwide, affecting all walks of life. It has had a devastating effect on communities throughout the country and has resulted in numerous injuries and deaths. Within the past decade, there have been more than “100,000 people killed as a result of gun violence” in America, and millions more have been victims of robbery, assault, or other crimes involving a gun (“FACT”). Within this same timeframe, hundreds of thousands of people within United States borders committed suicide with a gun or suffered from other gun inflicted injuries (“FACT”). Additionally,…
Also, in many campus shootings, professors and students could not defend themselves because those campuses were regulated to be gun-free areas. Though gun-free areas are designed to be safe zones, these shooting sprees show that they are not always safe. In fact, only criminals take advantage of such rules (Burnett). I agree with the idea that professors and students should be permitted to carry guns on campus to protect themselves.…
Guns on campus could possibly lead to an escalation of violence, an eye for an eye concept. The accepted way of handling a shooter is to calmly call the authorities. “The Gun Control Debate” P.G. 34” States that in 1993, 39,595 Americans were killed by guns, 71% (27,726) were handguns and 1% was of police force. The USs’ homicide rate is 70 times higher and 35 times higher suicide rate than that of the UK, which they have more of a restrictive gun legislation (per the Huffington Post.) Stats prove that small handheld firearms are most used in crimes. By 1999, gun crimes have dropped 68% when heightened police force strengthened. In the same year, the law for obtained a gun cracked down. When guns are brought in public places i.e. schools, grocery stores, or, law enforcement should handle public infringements. Law enforcement officials are trained and disciplined for heinous acts that are brought to the community. Otherwise, students shouldn’t be handling such consequential acts when terror…
Currently concealed weapons and weapons of any kind are prohibited on college and university campuses. The big problem that exists on college campuses is that numerous crimes exist, such as murder, rape, robbery, and assault. Department of Education statistics show that in 2001 610 murders occurred on college campuses. From 2005-2007 more than 100 murders occurred. In recent years the Virginia Tech shooting claimed the lives of both students and professors. The only individuals armed in these shootings and murders were the aggressors.…
