Gun Control Effectiveness
Does a person have the right to defend themselves? If a person does not have a criminal record, it’s their right if they want a gun or not. Gun control is not effective in the United States. Americans have rights and one of them is the 2nd amendment. People have the right to defend themselves.
Gun control laws take away the right to self defense and take away their feeling of safety. If a person doesn’t have a gun, when attacked they have a higher chance of dieing. “A small women is armed with a knife and the large man has a knife, he is more likely to win, but if she has a gun she gets to live another day” (Cooke, 26). You can fully load a gun and it won’t kill anyone, unless a person squeezes the trigger. “The intent of the people involved, the nature of their interactions and relationships, their access to firearms”(Murray, 58). There are underlying behavior for gun violence everyday law-abiding citizens don’t go on a killing spree. “There are gun-wielding individuals whose vicious and irresponsible behavior is a constant danger to the rest of us”(Hunt,2). These vicious criminals will steal guns from houses, just to get there kill.
Owning a gun takes great responsibility. If a gun owner somehow loses their gun, they must go to the police. “Legally owned guns are frequently stolen and used by criminals” (ProCon). People are saying the 2nd amendment should only be used when the U.S citizen needs to make a militia. “The 2nd amendment was intended to protect the rights of militias to own guns, not the right of individuals” (ProCon). The right to own a gun in the U.S is a great responsibility.
