Greek Gods And Parnassus Apollo: The Greek God
When you first hear the word, Apollo, the first thing that probably pops into your head is the moon landings. But did you know that the missions were named based on one of the Greek Gods, Phoebus Apollo. Considered the most ‘Greek’ of all the gods Apollo had many different skills he presented, which made him very respected by the Gods and very powerful in the eyes of man. Apollo is a very complex Greek God with many different names, special qualities and had many love affairs.
Apollo was known for many things including, God of Light, for pulling the sun across the sky every day with his four-horse chariot. God of Truth, for never telling a lie and being the prophetic deity in the Oracle. The Healer, for showing man the art of healing and medicine. In some areas he is sometimes known as, Pythian, for he killed the serpent, Python, that lived in caves in Parnassus, with a single arrow. …show more content…
He was the leader of the Muses, and the choir and would often times perform with them at the parties held at Olympus. Along with his talent for music, Apollo was also an excellent archer along side his twin sister, Artemis, and they used their remarkable aptitude to avenge their mother, Leto, several times.
Although Apollo is known for many of the good things he did, he also had a temper and when he became angry he could do terrible things. Such as, in Ancient Troy and Greek Islands he was known as the, Mouse god. When he was in a good mood he would kill all the mice and when he was angry he would send all the mice out with a plague. “...it was considered that a god that can cause disease is also able to prevent it.” Apollo would use his arrows to spread disease and then him or his son, Asclepius, could heal
