Graduation Speech: Tragic Death Of Alaska Ann Eaton
We are gathered here today to celebrate Alaska Ann Eaton’s beautiful and extraordinary life. She had a tragic death. Going scuba driving for your 3rd year wedding anniversary and getting attacked by a shark…well that’s extremely tragic. She was an animal person and maybe that's why she had dolphins surrounding her trying to help rescue her and stop the shark. But that’s the thing about pain, it demands to be felt. She always mentioned this one quote, “The only to way escape the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive”, but let’s not focus on the pain of her death but the joy of her life. She was born on September 5th 2003 and she became a Christian when she was 8 years old and she went to many churches. I met her when she came to ELCA in middle school. We …show more content…
I could always tell she was a Christian by the way she acted and she could always laugh at herself, but what a treacherous thing to believe that a person is more then a person. As Seniors, Katie(her best friend), Jace (my brother and Katie's husband), Alaska and I went on a mission trip to South Africa to help out at orphanages. She always wanted to be legally named Alaska and so in 2020 she legally changed it to Alaska. Then, we graduated together as class of 2021. Katie, Jase, Alaska and I went back packing across Europe together, before we all went to college. That trip was included some of the best moments that I had with her. When we went to the France and we saw the Eiffel Tower, I will never forget how her face lit up with excitement and awe. And going to England and seeing Big Ben was amazing with her. When we went to Norway and visited the Viking ship museum, it was amazing how interested she was in the history and culture of the Vikings. That was a great trip. Then we went to college at Auburn, and since we took enough AP classes we only had to complete the last two years of college for our bachelor degree. She got

I met Nicole Martin at an event where she was talking about her book titled Gracie's Ticket. She wrote the book to help children facing a situation that she lived for 19 years as a child sexually abused. She struggled to find a way to keep going after the painful trial that came back as a hung jury, and let her abuser walk away without a day in jail. She fought to escape reality through drugs and alcohol, suicide attempts only to discover in her darkest hour of desperation, a light of hope. God snatched her out of the flames and darkness that surrounded her, and showed her how to find life in Him. Through the love and the new gift of life in Christ, she found joy and peace for the first time in life. She met her husband Ben, and they…

As everyday life goes on, human beings are constantly faced with challenges that require sacrifices. In Frank McCourt’s memoir titled Angela’s Ashes, he talks about the constant battles his family has with life. He faces issues that no child should have to deal with leading up to his adolescent years: deaths, poverty, hunger, and toil. McCourt titled this memoir as a tribute to remember his mother’s unremarkable suffering. His purpose demonstrates that regardless of the experiences one goes through, it is critical to understand that life must go on and recuperation is part of life. McCourt’s use of tone in the memoir is a perfect combination of bitter, but quite inviting to keep the reader absorbed. McCourt uses tactile, olfactory, and visual imagery to identify the challenges his family goes through; his purpose is for the readers to identify themselves in similar situations and to let them know everything will work out for the better in the end.…

In poet Rita Dove's 2016 commencement address, she outlines a large difference between what the definitions of a commencement speaker and a poet are – that is to "dispense life advice" or leave well wishes with the graduating class – to introduce the structure of her speech. Through the use of personal anecdotes describing her success with these "wishes", as well as providing examples of other successful public figures, Dove encourages the University of Virginia at Charlottesville graduating class to have an insatiable desire to perform their absolute best in any given situation and be curious about the world, as those qualities will improve their success in life. To begin with, Dove has a shift in tone in her speech after her introduction to describing the 3 wishes she leaves with the graduates – she changes her…

The body no longer full of vigor nor fight, the heart heavy form sorrows past; the footsteps of death nocking at the door serve as an earnest call to evaluate and make peace with all we did in life. Suddenly, its time to review the many chronicles that compose our life story. As I look back on my life I am overwhelmed with grief. She was not having it, and stayed in complete belief, that there wasn’t enough proof of this “God”.
