College Admissions Essay: How Inspiration Changed My Life
My Inspiration
I never imagined that one little, tiny human could change my life. I know they say that the second you see your child, you’ll experience a love that you’ll have experienced before. Although I didn’t have a child, the birth of my little sister sure allowed me to experience this love. At the ripe age of 13, I was beyond excited for my mom to have a baby. While I already had two siblings, they were closer to me in age. I was finally going to be able to take care of a baby, and there was nothing that I was more excited about.

On the evening of January 14, 2010, I was at a basketball game with my friends. Because my parents were divorced, I planned on my dad picking me up from the game and bringing me home to my moms. After trying for a few minutes to get ahold of my mom before leaving the school, my dad finally arrived. He told me that my mom was at the hospital and that she was in labor. Since we had planned ahead, I knew that he would bring

He told me that my mom was pretty far into labor and that she was going to be ready to push in the next few hours. After waiting in her room with her for about two hours, she was ready to push. Oh my goodness, I was so excited. After she started pushing, it only took about five minutes for that precious baby to arrive. When I first laid my eyes on her, I teared up. I knew automatically that I was going to love her so much. She was so beautiful!

Amilia Ann Freeland was born on January 14, and ever since that day, my life has been changed. After she was born, I knew she would be my best friend. I’m always there to protect her, and she’s always here to cuddle me when I’m sad. Having her in my life has truly changed me for the better. When I’m going through something rough, I tell myself to get through it for her. I want her to have someone in her life to look up to. I never knew that one tiny little girl could change my life so

My father inspired me to step into a world outside of my comfort zone. During high school, I was known as an introverted person who did not get along with others as much. I was afraid of being a part of a large crowd simply because I knew that fitting in would be impossible. However, by the time I became a junior, the daily life that I had lived routinely suddenly began to change. With the recent news about racial violence, such as the deaths of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, I started to feel discomfort about the people who were around me. My uneasiness eventually had gotten to a point where my father tried his best to push me towards being a person who is a keen listener and great conversationalist. From that moment on, my father encouraged me to realize that the world was…

One day I decided to lay down and rest because I was so exhausted with the emotional frustration of not knowing what I was going to do with the rest of my life. I had a dream. I saw myself in my very own business, decorating a beautiful wedding cake and I woke up with excitement and a smile on my face. I decided to pursue an Associates Degree in Baking and Pastry management before I even knew about my family's history and, as soon as I found out, I knew that what I was pursuing was exactly what I needed to do and it soon became my calling.…

A very wise uncle used to offer me guidance, which included “stay in school”, “you have plenty of time to make money”, “life will only get more complicated as you get older”. Nevertheless, I was young and foolish and did not heed his advice. I wanted to make my way into the world, and start earning money as a professional, not as a short-order cook in the family restaurant. Looking back through the lens of time it is easy to say that one of my greatest regrets was the decision not to go to graduate school, because I now realize how quickly life does change and that years really do go by in a flash.…

Before this interview, I had never really thought about how there would be good emotions associated with giving birth, I had also just thought about how painful it must be physically and how awful that sounds to go through. However, after hearing my mom describe giving birth as “breathtaking, amazing, and inspiring”, my perspective on the entire experience of giving birth has changed. It was humbly to see that birth is really more than just the physical pain; it’s about bringing someone you already love so much into the…

A little while later they came out and got my mom and I. I was put in a small room meant just to evaluate a patient, and they began checking my contractions. I was in that room for a few hours, and my contractions got worse and even more painful. I was in a lot of pain and my nurse came in and told me that If I couldn’t get my body to dilate more so the baby could have room to make it's way out I would have to go home and wait. I walked the halls for a hour, and after the nurse checked me again she sent me home. It was very late at night, and I went home in a lot of pain. I laid in bed, and after 3 hours of misery I decided to return to the hospital. They put me straight into a labor and delivery room, and after I was checked, they told me I had dilated some more, and I would be having the baby sometime that day. I would meet my baby girl on April 2nd. The thought made me anxious and nervous. They came in and out all night checking my contractions, my IV, and to see how far I was dilated. I got the epidural early in the morning so I could rest before the big event. When I woke up the sun was rising, and my family surrounded me. It was almost time. The day dragged on, and I could feel more pressure as the day passed. There was no pain only pressure, and a lot of it. It was later in the day, and I was dilated to 9cm. It was finally time. I started pushing around 4 pm, and I was surrounded by my families…

A month later, I went to my first ultra sound with my mother. I had butterflies in my stomach and I couldn’t stop smiling. The doctor announced “It’s a boy”. My eyes filled with tears and I couldn’t stop smiling. I called Justin at work and told him we were having a precious baby boy. He was so happy to be having a son and to teach him everything he knew. The realization of becoming a mother was finally starting to kick in. When I was seven months pregnant, my mother threw me a baby shower. There were at least sixty people there. Everyone was touching my belly and telling me that I was going to be a wonderful mother. I got absolutely everything I needed for my son. I didn’t know how to thank my mom for all she had done. My baby shower made me realize that…

October 17, 2012 was the big day! I had to get induced because it was time but my baby wasn’t ready yet. I was slowly dying from the contractions.
