Grading Rubric For Radiography Students
The purpose of the article by Kilgour et al. (2014) is to compare the attitudes of supervising radiographers and teachers when using a grading rubric for radiography students on placements. Also, to verify whether educational background, mainly in the case of teachers, has an effect on these attitudes (Kilgour et al. 2014). A grading rubric is defined as a matrix that allows a set of criteria to be assessed through levels of achievement (Howell 2014). They aimed to perceive whether this type of assessment is effective and useful in the student’s process of learning. There is a large literature database that is widely available for the use of rubrics in relation to grading students (Howell 2014). However, the literature found does not directly relate to medical imaging placement assessments. The literature that was used by Kilgour et al. (2014) can be categorized according to the themes in the article. The main themes of the literature include: education, assessment and grading, reliability and research based articles involving statistics. Kilgour et al. (2014) is also impartial to one author, for which he has cited multiple articles. The articles mostly relate the importance of assessments and criterion in student learning and development.
The literature was critically appraised, therefore useful in the support of the findings or lack thereof.

(2014) carried out a cross-sectional study, meaning the study is performed at one point or over a short period of time (Levin 2006). Surveys were sent out using closed ended questions for the quantitative data and open-ended questions for the qualitative data. The use of surveys is a convenient, but appropriate, technique to retrieve the data. This is generally the preferred method of data collection for cross-sectional studies, as the purpose of its use is to gather descriptive facts and figures for the population (Levin 2006). Statistical information was salvaged in relation to educational background and value of the rubric in accordance with constructive feedback on the performance of the assessment
