Grading is a topic in education which has caused much discussion and disagreement among educators; most agree that it has much potential to be used in ways which enhance student performance and achievement, but agreeing on specifics of how to design grading in a way most beneficial to students has been another matter. This paper compares two grading systems: the commonly used one hundred point system, and a fifty point system. It will examine the validity of both systems as in terms of measuring student achievement. Additionally, it will provide some points for educators to ponder as they seek to use the powerful tool of grading in ways most helpful toward our shared goal of providing the fairest and most meaningful motivation for our students.…

In this universe there is always a negative and a positive side to everything. Similarly to this topic there is a positive and a negative side. First let us get the overall idea about grades. Grades in the realm of education are standardized measurements of varying levels of comprehension within a subject area .The New Scheme of Grading has been introduced with the aim that it will minimize misclassification of students on the basis of marks. It will eliminate unhealthy competition among high achievers. It will reduce pressure and will provide the learner with more flexibility. It will lead to a focus on a better learning environment Operational It will facilitate joyful and stress free learning. In grading system “My friends who have got 71 or 79 marks will be awarded the same grade.” In grading system every student has to work really hard and now teachers has also right for giving the grades according to student’s punctuality on work .I think it’s quite a good system because it tests students frequently to see if they are learning the required syllabus. Also I believe grading system is better because it gives the chance to average student also to score good marks and it attracts their interest also towards their school curriculum. Furthermore awarding of grades has number of advantages over awarding of numerical marks as it considerably reduces inter and intra examiner variability in marking. Statistical research in assessment techniques indicates that there is a rise in individual intellect of students to the extent of 5% to 15% after the enforcement of grading system. This system puts students of similar potential in same ability bands. Lastly, it will reduce undesired and unsound comparison of small difference of marks. But again the same line “My friends who have got 71 or 79 marks will be awarded the same grade.” is said to be not justified by some as, they think that a person who has got 8% less is should not be treated and…

Grade system follows the philosophy that all students of a grade are equally intelligent. In Mark System , the philosophy followed is that the students who score more are superior or intelligent. The Mark system is a more competitive system in which students get to know their exact scores while in the grading system the marks are divided into many ranges. In the Mark system, a student can surpass another student by fraction of a mark . Here students work harder even for that single mark. This promotes competition effectively but at the same time it demotes ,the value of gaining knowledge instead of just getting good marks, greatly . In this students focus just on getting marks instead of focusing on gaining complete knowledge. On the contrary, the grading system divides the scores that students receive into major groups known as grades. Here a student cannot prove himself to be better than another student by a fraction of marks as each grade contains marks from a range of 5% to 15% marks. Thus , the grading system emphasizes the value of gaining knowledge over marks. It is also true that the grade system reduces stress upon the students as students no longer have to worry about scoring few marks more or less than his peer or the marks expected out of him.…
