Good Will Hunting

Good Will Hunting is a poetic story of a young man who works as a janitor at MIT while living in one of the rough neighborhood in South Boston. Despite his gift in Mathematics, he is still having a hard time finding his place in the world. Matt Damon plays a young genius with a troubled childhood and a troubled mind that was severely abused as a child and has been in trouble with the law on numerous occasions. The movie is a passage through the mind of Will Hunting as he is required to undergo therapy instead of going to jail. Stellan Skarsgard who plays Professor Lambeau helped Will to stay out of jail by convincing the judge to have Will placed under his custody to work on mathematical problems and to get psychological help. After many failing attempts with different psychologists, Professor Lambeau contacted his colleague and good friend Robin Williams who plays “Sean” the psychologist to work with Will. Despite the fact that the rapport between both Will and Sean is very complicated and psychologically volatile, Sean sticks with it because he is convinced he can assist Will in finding some sort of stability and happiness within his life. Will’s life revolves around his job and his friends. One of those best friends is Ben Affleck who plays Chuckie, whom he enjoys to hang out with, but at the same time his hanging out usually gets him into fights and into trouble with the law. Will spends a lot of time at home reading books and storing information in his photographic mind, and because of Will’s dysfunctional childhood, he has difficulty controlling his anger and trusting people, especially ones with authority, he also has poor social interaction with others. From observing Will in the movie, I became convinced that he has reactive attachment disorder. According to the DSM-IV-TR, “RAD is

His intelligence is also something spectacular to look at, especially from a psychological approach. Although he has a much higher intelligence than others, the intelligence he has is concentrated on only one aspect of intelligence. His Componential intelligence is so over developed that it possibly caused the underdevelopment of his Contextual intelligence and emotional intelligence. His Componential intelligence is obviously much higher than others, which is seen when he works these complex math equations with such ease. His lack of Contextual intelligence is made very clear by Sean Maguire, his psychologist, played by Robin Williams. In one particular scene, Sean breaks down Will by stating that every response Will has to anything comes from a book. None of his responses come from real world experiences and…

The concept of identity perception plays a substantial role in the film Good Will Hunting . The private self also referred to as the perceived self is a reflection of the self-concept, the person we believe ourselves to be in times of honest self-examination (Adler,72). Will's private self is just that, private. He had a painful childhood and as a result he buries his past deep in the back of his mind, to the point where he doesn't even acknowledge it. As a child Will was an abandoned orphan who had been physically abused by his foster parents. One can assume this does not set a good precedent for high self-worth. He was deserted by the people who were supposed to love him the most and as a result this Wills reflected-appraisal affects every aspect of his life and set the tone for his relationships. Reflected appraisal is a process in which each of us develops a self-concept…

‘The pursuit of happiness’ tell us the story of a father and his son after a failed investment, the father that plays on the movie was actor, is Will Smith loses everything his wife, his house, and his money. The only thing that helps the man keep on living is his son. The whole movie describes the bad days of his life when he had no money, no place to live, not even a place to sleep; the father and son had to sleep in a public rest room. I really like the way the main character protects his son, the way he fights against fate and the way he tries to attain the life he once had. Thanks to the directors that make these types of movies and show so much passion and drama on movies like ‘the pursuit of happiness’. Will Smith is famous for action films but this time, he shows the audience a new appearance.…
