Barbara Bush has a very good ethos as a writer. Throughout her speech she utilizes that, along with much pathos to help bring across her message: that today a new world is forming, and the students of Wellesley College are the future of society, so find where you think you fit in to society, not where others say you have to go.…

Paige James and Mikaela Rustand’s Pro/Con speech on whether the meaning of nursery rhythms should be changed or not met this category because the majority of the audience members can remember when they were a child and first taught nursery rhythms. Some of the audience members could even recite these nursery rhythms word for word, but many could not recall the meaning behind each rhythm. Both speeches were well perceived by the audience.…

    Leymah Gbowee's Speech

Leymah Gbowee gave a speech at the Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) conference, titled “Women Building Peace: The Liberian Experience,” about how her life experiences, before, during, and after the Liberian civil war, led her to determine how to fight for Peace successfully. In her childhood, she was raised in a community in Liberia, where people treated everyone as equals. They did not see ethnic, racial, religious, or social status differences and lived in harmony, but when a civil war broke that changed dramatically. At first, she only thought that men could make a difference and work for peace in her country. Later, she went north in her country to work and she saw the real victims of war; the women in this town her raped, were homeless and mistreated. So, she worked with a group of women for three things. They wanted a cease-fire, peace talks and deployment of international peacekeepers. They created a human barrier around the building they were having talks in. She was almost arrested for obstructing justice, but she preserved and this eventually led to success in gaining peace in Liberia. She explained that to…

On September 17, 1999 Linda Arndt interview with ABC news Tunnel on what exactly December 26, 1999, the day Jonbenet body was found. During her interview she uses a great amount of Kairos describing the timeline on that day. She uses a timeline from when she arrived at the Ramsey’s house from when Jonbenet was found. Another rhetorical appeal she used in her ethos is logos, because she talks about who she believes killed Jonbenet Ramsey and want to convince the world who she believes killed Jonbenet Ramsey and wants justice to be served. Linda Arndt has no doubt on her mind on who killed Jonbenet Ramsey and hopes everyone believes what she believes.…

The main idea of William J. Clinton’s speech “Remarks to the Convocation of the Church of God in Christ” is that the United States is becoming more violent every day, many innocent children are dying every day, and that he wants the American people to start doing something about it. In his speech Clinton spoke at the church where Martin Luther King Jr. last delivered a sermon about freedom. Clinton used the opportunity to address issues of crime, violence, and family as he launches his plans to make America safer for future generations. He addressed many stories where young kids were being killed and being violent towards others.…

“She’s a college freshman with a new BMW and she went into debt for it!” said Rachel Cruze at the beginning of her financial planning workshop at Texas A&M University-Commerce. She was politely describing the reckless spending that is prevalent among college students, and came to our university to raise awareness concerning the major debt crises among her young audience. She came to the university on October 11, and stood on stage in the Ferguson Auditorium to give college students, and other individuals, advice about how to efficiently manage finances. As the daughter of renown financial planner Dave Ramsey, Cruze offered proven financial management methods to the crowd. Although she gave several key points to financial freedom, her main topic was urging college students to go into as little debt as possible.…

In the TED talk, “The Power of Introverts” speaker Susan Cain suggests that introversion should be encouraged and embraced. She believes that by allowing individuals to work individually, it can help maximize their skills in school and work. She explains that introverts aren’t shy, but they respond differently to stimulation. As an introvert, I empathize Cain’s personal experience of being an introvert, but some of her reasoning is questionable. However, the idea that introversion should be accepted as a method of working and learning is appealing. I would recommend anyone to watch her TED talk because anyone can learn from her discussion on introversion, even if you’re an extrovert.…

I would like to thank the Cascade Boys and Girls Club in particular for giving me a place to interact with other kids and through them adapting to my new school and my community. I also want to thank them for giving me the chance to be a leader and mentor among the kids and also experience in a workplace. I hope my story inspires others to not let change and adversity hold them back from moving forward and achieving what they hope to do, but instead to use the changes as a chance to discover something new and to power through the adversities that stand between them and their goals. My experiences have taught me that change is not always negative that sometimes change is just a new opportunity in disguise or a new obstacle to surpass in order…

This year, in my final year of highschool, I have been faced with many decisions and, as a result, have grown as a person. One of the most eye opening experiences I’ve encountered thus far is the Rachel’s Challenge presentation back in September. Although it was only an hour and a half, the tale of Rachel Scott, the first victim of the Columbine shooting, has heavily influenced my philosophy on life. Rachel lived her life in way she hoped to change the world, by following her “Code of Ethics.” She believed that compassion and trust were key to this goal, that by simply being kind she could ‘start a chain reaction.’ Taking from her example I have developed my own code to live by that can be neatly summed up by the phrase: Change begins with…
