Mikaela Rustand Speech
Paige James and Mikaela Rustand’s Pro/Con speech on whether the meaning of nursery rhythms should be changed or not met this category because the majority of the audience members can remember when they were a child and first taught nursery rhythms. Some of the audience members could even recite these nursery rhythms word for word, but many could not recall the meaning behind each rhythm. Both speeches were well perceived by the audience.

Hello everyone. First, I want to start by talking about myself. My name is Shishir Velma, I am a ninth grader at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, Maryland. So, it is my first year in high school, and I am not sure how much I like it. Yeah it is great that I get to meet new people, make new friends, and experience a lot of new things. But on the other hand, homework, clubs, and sports are dominating my life. Ever since I started going to high school, I have had less time to spend with my family and do the things I love. It is ridiculous how many hours I have sat in my room, staring at my computer, studying, and doing homework. My own room, which once used to be a place for relaxation and privacy now feels like a prison. The transition…

Terrorism is a worldwide phenomenon. Every minute, two people are killed in conflicts around the world. Often very little is known about the people who are fighting and dying. The country of India calls upon greater participation of the United Nations in countering terrorism. Worldwide participation should be taken in the implementation of the present anti-terrorist conventions, and new international methods must also be developed in order to counteract terrorist threats. We ask that countries cooperate with each other, particularly through bilateral and multilateral agreements and arrangements to make extraditions easier and deny terrorists asylum, in order to prevent and suppress terrorist acts. Countries must realize that suppressing acts of international terrorism are essential to international peace and security, because even if their countries are not facing terrorism as a crisis, they may eventually do so, as terrorism is a worldwide occurence, which is, as we have seen, often interconnected.…

    Motherland Speech

Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we will redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance .... We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again. A country got rid of her foreign yoke and became a sovereign nation, she celebrated her sovereignty on this day - the triumph of numerous martyred souls. It was a day of fulfillment, it was the day of a new beginning, a birth of a nation. On the stroke of midnight, a country came into life again as the british handed over the governance to the leaders. The long and difficult struggle had borne fruit at last, though the happiness was marred by the fact that the country was divided and the violent communal riots had left the countries permanently scarred. That was the price that India paid for her dearly bought freedom. The british government declared the country independent and left for their own shores. On the 15th of August, 1947, India became completely independent. It was on this historic date that Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime Minister of India, unfurled the Indian tricolor on the ramparts the magnificent Red Fort, symbolically marking the end of the british colonial rule.. Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, the world still sleeps ,ourselves to cooperate with them in furthering peace, freedom and democracy. And to India, our much-loved motherland, the ancient, the eternal and the ever-new,…
