Gifted Program Application Essay
Growing up in a household that surrounded me with math and science, my mom being a chemistry teacher and my dad being a field Growing up in a household that surrounded me with math and science, my mom being a chemistry teacher and my dad being a field engineer, I naturally take an interest in those particular subjects. I always tried to find ways that the material my class covered in one subject related to what I was learning in another. I went to a charter school for Kindergarten through sixth grade, which was first called Kennesaw Charter School, and later, Kennesaw Charter Science and Math Academy, or KCSMA for short. When I first started the science fair at school in the first grade, I would work on my project for days on end and entered the fair every year it was available to me. When I didn’t …show more content…
I was one of the first students at my school to enter this program, and my class started with only three students between two grades. In the gifted program, commonly called “Quest,” I normally finished the logic puzzles the teachers gave in about half the time as the other students. In Quest, I found that I liked using multiple methods to solve the same problem, as it proved highly beneficial to me. I learned how to use my first CAD program in Quest when my teachers conducted a unit on 3d design, where I learned to use the program Google Sketchup®. I joined the robotics team in fourth grade, and there found a new way to challenge my creativity, technological skills, and logical reasoning. I learned how to do basic programming on the team, using the “LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT” programming system on the computer. I later learned to use the similar system used to program “LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Ev3.” This is now my fifth consecutive year on a robotics team, and I am now the co-captain of the team at Simpson Middle

As a student, it is a great honor to be just nominated as candidate for National Honor society. It shows me that I have been working hard to stand out more than others. Throughout my high school career, I want to be one of the top and I have been trying to reach that goal. I have chosen to take all honor classes to help me get there. I also show traits that could make me a good leader. I was also elected to go to the North Suburban Leadership Conference. I like to go out and meet new people, and I think NHS is a good place to explore and meet new people. I also like to volunteer and help people do things that need to be done. I help out in the garden here at the high school in the summer, help set up chairs and tables for community day, and I also help the youth football team with the “chain gang” during their football season. I also help at my church clothes donations to the less fortunate people. I feel NHS would make me stay more focus on what I need to do and also teach me more responsibility. Being in NHS would make me be an example which would hold me to act with higher standards than other students. It seems like when you’re in NHS you travel and meet more people, and I like to take those types of trips as a teenager. Also being in NHS gives me a better chance to get into colleges of my choice. I really want to go to college, and this program makes more colleges interested in me. I hope I get elected to become a member of the National Honors Society and represent it in a good and positive…

I was introduced to the field I am interested in from my 9th grade biology class. Prior to the course, I had never taken biology or any science, for that matter, that had captured my attention such as this year-long experience. I was intrigued by the subject and fascinated with all the advances in society that have been made by scientists throughout the years. The possibility of being able to do this in the future kept me engaged and I further pursued this interest by currently taking AP Biology. In addition, I was inspired by the change that scientists can make through research and…

I always knew that I was gifted, but throughout my life, I took it for granted. Over a year ago I would have never considered the possibility of applying to an honorary university, not to of one. Three years ago, I just wanted to get a higher education. kept modified during my sophomore year of high school. I was delighted to have registered for Mrs. Shrull's visual art class. The first time I saw this inspiring and compassionate individual, as she walked into the classroom with a smile on her face and said: “Each and every one of you has a gift, you may not know it yet but, that should not stop you from reaching your full potential as an artist.” I knew from there on that I made the right decision.…

Doing some research, I learned about the science club in my middle school. During the science club, we did many experience relating to physics and chemistry. Every time we did an experience, I would try to apply it to an airplane. For example, after forming a group of four, we were given the task to design a go cart in auto-cad and then build it in reality. After completing the first challenge we must race it against other groups on race day. During race day, we were expected to calculate speed, drag and friction, and a few years later I did the same with a plane in my first aerospace class. Another example came in high school, when I was in my 3rd year in the robotic club and the adviser gave us a challenge. The challenge was to create a wheelchair pitching machine for a friend of his that happen to be a paralyzed baseball coach. The challenge was tough because it was the first of its kind; however, we learned about compressors, circuits, programming and how to work as a team. As a result, during my sophomore year of college, I took Physics 196 and a programming class. Luckily for me both of those classes were not a challenge because I had learned majority of the content in robotic…

I look exactly like my older sister Michelle. You’d sometimes think we were twins if not for the seven year gap and the one inch height difference. What that seven year separation doesn’t show in our faces, it makes up for in our experiences. The situation worked in my favor; Michelle went through various life stages years ahead of me, allowing her to share her “Now that I look back on it” wisdom with me. Because of this, my sister took it upon herself to guide me through adolescence. I am eternally grateful to have had her to support and care through our tumultuous childhood.…

My desire to pursue a career in health care is greatly influenced by its unlimited opportunities for career development and the desire to impact another person’s life positively. As a kid, I always had a burning desire to become a nurse or a medical doctor but my parents’ influence and their perception of the engineering profession while in Nigeria lured me away. I trained and practiced as a Materials Engineer back in Nigeria, where I worked as a research and development officer for five years. However, coming to the United States created the turning point in my life. I searched for engineering jobs unsuccessfully for many months, and none was forthcoming despite availability of many job openings in nursing and healthcare related fields. In order to confirm my readiness to pursue nursing as a career, I entered a Practical Nursing program at the Wilbur Wright College in Chicago. At this time, I was still driving cab to support myself, while I dropped it completely upon graduation and passing LPN board examination.…

Since my younger years at the school I have always looked up to the Sixth form students for support and guidance. I would like the chance myself, to help younger students as I feel I am approachable and caring. After recieving my GCSE results where I exceeded my target grades in a majority of subjects I realised that I wanted to become a senior prefect to give back to the school that has improved my learning incredibly.…
