Georgia Flag Persuasive Essay
The flag of the great state of Georgia has been changed and rearranged 4 times. Out of those four flags, 3 of them were controversial. They were controversial because they bore a resemblance to a flag that is referred to as the confederate flag. The current flag that represents our amazing state today carries a lot of meaning. This meaning is different for many people which in turn, makes the flag a very controversial topic. Some people see it as a gem of our history while other people see it as a bearer of segregation and racism. Many people believe that this flag should be changed while other believe that the flag should stay the way it is. I believe that the Georgia state flag should be made anew. The flag should be changed because it causes tension and separation throughout the state of Georgia and because it has a negative meaning. The banner that signifies our state is not only a symbol of disregard or ignorance, but racism and segregation also. All of these symbols bring tension and separation between a population. This tension that has been created then forms unnecessary repercussions. These unnecessary repercussions not only effect Georgia but the United States also. Many people are not taught to recognize the confederate battle flag in ambiguous ways such as structure. Instead, we are taught to recognized the stars and bars. The flag that was last decided by the confederacy was the same structure as the flag now. People may ask “why is this a problem if we’ve been doing this before?” well, the problem is the 3rd state flag didn’t offend anyone or tarnish our wonderful state, but we Georgians went and changed the flag back to what we believe is displaying pride for our history.
