General Schedule (GS) Government System
I currently work in the general schedule (GS) government system. Depending on who you ask some people would say the system is unfair because the merit promotion system doesn't produce the best candidate. According to a survey conducted by MSPB, "Only 45 percent of employees in one survey believed that supervisors promote the best-qualified candidates, and a significant portion of supervisors said the process does not help them pick the best person for the job"(Employees also believe promotions are based more on favoritism instead of applicant potential, Almost half of the people surveyed believed they had been passed over for a promotion because of the merit promotion process. In my agency/office people are promoted based on potential and experience

They should have taken some time to look at each application to cross out the ones that did not meet the characteristic that were initially brought about. Race should not have ever been a factor and seeking candidates to fill all ten open positions. Regardless of anyone’s race the job still has to be completed. Everyone should have been given a fair chance for any position available. They could have also given everyone a trial period to let their performance speak for itself. I think that each candidate should have been given a fair opportunity to be rewarded with a job with Tennessee Valley Authority. So many companies try to use and abuse you as long as you will let them; Dunlap felt that he had an equal chance to get hired on with this company in which he had been…

The General Service Administration (GSA) is an agency found in the United States government. Its main purpose is to “help manage and support the basic functioning of federal agencies.” (1). It supports and helps other agencies when it comes to fixing their budget, implementing policies that cut cost, or even providing everyday items that are needed. The GSA watches over other agencies to make sure that it is function correctly and efficiently. One unique characteristic of this agency is that it is an independent agency, which means that even though it is part of the executive branch the president has no power over it. Although more often than not it is based on students achieving higher scores on standardized testing. Merit pay systems today care more about students achievement and their success that the teacher has with them, while not taking into account veteran teachers who have impacted and succeeded more students in the past then the new teachers who only produce students who can pass standardized testing with high scores. Looking at this side and opinion of the merit pay system really opens my eyes to how the system works and how some view it. True teaching shouldn’t be judged off of test scores, it should be based off of bettering the students as a whole, to receive merit…

The Framers believed their most important action in preventing the tyranny in the United States was to separate the powers among three branches. They wanted to create a stronger national government but they also wanted to guard against possible misuse of that power. One of the key concept was the Separation of Powers. It was a method to allow each of the branches to affect the actions of the others and that method was known as the “check and balances” systems.…
